Ryan Murphyadmitted that he lied to Madonna about his star sign to get her to hire him for a job. The director and creator of "Glee" opened up about this while recounting how he made a tribute episode to the singer in season one of the popular show.
Before meeting Madonna for the first time, fellow film producer Tom Rosenberg warned him about her dislike for Scorpios. This made him claim another birthday to land a movie deal with her and Rupert Everett. Apart from this exchange, Murphy had a great time interviewing the singer for six months.
Madonna has turned down deals with celebs in the past because of their star signs. Although Murphy lied to get information about her for a movie, he eventually got fired for a reason.

Ryan Murphy Lied To Madonna About His Star Sign
Murphy recalled lying about his birthday for a chance to interview Madonna for a movie on an episode of the And That's What You REALLY Missed podcast. This was because Madonna allegedly doesn't like Scorpios. He featured alongside Kevin McHale and Jenna Ushkowitz on the podcast to look back at "Glee."
According to Insider, the director recalled an episode in season one where he paid tribute to Madonna by using her song. Murphy already knew Madonna at the time, which made it easy to get permission to use her music. He met her earlier in his career when producer Rosenberg asked him to interview her and turn his findings "into a script" for a movie.
Rosenberg asked Murphy, who was born on November 9th, to lie about his birthday and star sign, which he did. He recalled giving her his "mother's birthday of September 3rd," to which she replied, "Oh, a Virgo. Okay." The "Like A Virgin" singer hired him shortly after the conversation.
He Loved Interviewing Madonna
The director recalled having a great time interviewing the "Frozen" singer for six months. Madonna was much nicer and more patient than he expected. Murphy said, "I had this great experience with her. I cannot say enough good things about Madonna. How nice she was."
Although he never found out why she disliked Scorpios, he found it funny. He said, "I never understood the Scorpio thing, and maybe it was a joke between them but it was funny."
Murphy recalled the exchange with Rosenberg when he asked him to lie. "He goes, 'Are you a Scorpio?' I said, 'Yeah.' And he goes, 'You can't tell that to her, cause she won't hire you.' I said, 'What do you mean?' He said, 'I don't know but just don't say you're a Scorpio. Say you're something else.'"
Madonna Has Declined Deals Because Of Star Signs
Although Murphy escaped this by lying, Madonna has a reputation for refusing to work with people with certain star signs. French DJ and producer David Guetta revealed in 2020 that she changed her mind about working with him because of his star sign.
Madonna wanted to work with him after he earned a Grammy for his remix of her song "Revolver" in 2011. After complimenting the song, she asked him to produce her next album. They then discussed the details over lunch, during which she asked him for his star sign.
After he revealed he was a Scorpio, Madonna changed her mind. He said, "Suddenly, she makes a face and she says to me, 'I'm sorry, we're not going to be able to work together. It was a pleasure to know you. Goodbye!'"
Ryan Murphy Got Fired From The Movie
During the podcast, Murphy revealed that he eventually got fired from working on the film, which became the 2000 romance/drama "The Next Best Thing." While Rosenberg loved his draft of the script, Everett wasn't a fan of it.
The actor and producer criticized the writing for being entirely "about Madonna's character" as it was "supposed to be a two-hander." However, some parts of the script were still used in the movie after it was rewritten by Tom Ropelewski.
