Hilaria Baldwin Returns to Social Media for Heritage Explanation

Hilaria Baldwin has returned to social media after being absent for more than a month following major backlash she received from those who felt she had not been genuine about her heritage. The wife of Alec Baldwin took to Instagram on Friday afternoon with an explanation, and small apology, for the headline-grabbing incident that went down before the end of 2020. At the time, Hilaria had been very defensive in the wake of critics questioning where she was born, and the legitimacy of her Spanish background.

"I’ve spent the last month listening, reflecting, and asking myself how I can learn and grow. My parents raised my brother and me with two cultures, American and Spanish, and I feel a true sense of belonging to both," 37-year-old Hilaria Baldwin wrote on Instagram.

She included a photo of herself surrounded by family, including actor Alec Baldwin and their five children.

She added, with an apology: "The way I’ve spoken about myself and my deep connection to two cultures could have been better explained - I should have been more clear and I'm sorry."

The drama for Hilaria Baldwin started after a tweet went viral with an accusation that she has been conning the public with her Spanish background.

"You have to admire Hilaria Baldwin’s commitment to her decade long grift where she impersonates a Spanish person," the tweet read.

Multiple people then began coming forward with alleged evidence of Mrs. Alec Baldwin speaking without a Spanish accent and accusing her of being born in the U.S., although Baldwin has long claimed she was born in Mallorca, Spain and raised in Boston, Massachusetts.

Hilaria Baldwin, who has since clarified that she was born in Boston, wrote:

"I'm proud of the way I was raised, and we’re raising our children to share the same love and respect for both. Being vulnerable and pushing ourselves to learn and grow is what we've built our community on, and I hope to get back to the supportive and kind environment we’ve built together."

Unlike in the past, Hilaria was not interested in hearing responses from critics and made sure to disable the comments on her post.
