Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have reacted to the news of their eviction from Frogmore Cottage. The couple is reportedly not shocked about the removal, which was put into action after the release of Harry’s memoir, Spare.
However, Harry and Markle’s eviction stunned several members of the Royal Family, who see it as a “cruel punishment.” Per reports, the Duke and Duchess now have a few months to vacate the property, which seems to have been offered to Prince Andrew.
The revelations come amid preparation for King Charles‘ coronation, which Harry may not be invited to.

Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Are Okay With The Eviction
According to a report by The Times, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are “okay” about being evicted from Frogmore Cottage. After Harry’s explosive memoir, Spare, was released in January; the Royal couple was given a few weeks to vacate their British home by Buckingham Palace.
A source for the news outlet claims that Harry and Meghan weren’t surprised about being asked to leave Frogmore Cottage and that they said, “If we need to move out, we will get ourselves out.”
Frogmore Cottage is a place Harry and Meghan built a lot of their memories in the UK as they started their family. When they first received the property, the couple had to renovate extensively, which was done by the Sovereign Grant. However, when the couple left the UK and their senior Royal positions, they repaid the £2.4 million worth of renovations.
The Decision Shocked Members Of The Royal Family
Journalist Omid Scobie recently spoke to the Daily Mail about the Frogmore eviction and said the Palace’s decision shocked several members of the Royal Family. He said the other Royals were “appalled” by the decision and that it “feels very final and like a cruel punishment.” Scobie added, “It’s like [the Royal family] want to cut them out of the picture for good.”
The news outlet has now confirmed that the Sussexes’ eviction deadline has been extended from a few weeks to after King Charles’s coronation. The couple has reportedly acknowledged their privilege in having two homes, in the UK and the US, but are okay with losing the cottage.
The Cottage Has Been Offered To Prince Andrew
Earlier this week, reports confirmed that Frogmore cottage was offered to Prince Andrew to replace his current Royal Lodge in Windsor Great Park. However, Andrew is allegedly refusing to accept the offer because he prefers his current home, which is much larger than Frogmore.
Andrew presently pays about £250 per week for the subsidized mansion, which covers 98 acres and has 30 rooms and a pool. According to The Telegraph, Harry and Meghan weren’t informed the cottage “had been earmarked for the Duke of York.”
The news of King Charles offering Frogmore, which the couple carefully renovated and designed to suit their family, to Andrew will definitely not sit well with Harry and Meghan. Reports estimate the news will only aggravate the already tense relationship between the couple and the Royal Family.
Prince Harry May Not Be Invited To The King’s Coronation
The revelations about Frogmore cottage come amid preparations for the coronation in May, which has been controversial due to the possibility of Harry not being invited. During a previous interview, the Duke was asked about whether he’d attend the event, and he said it’s left to the Royal Family.
Harry said, “There’s a lot that can happen between now and then. But, the door is always open. The ball is in their court. There’s a lot to be discussed, and I really hope that they’re willing to sit down and talk about it.” If the couple does choose to attend the coronation festivities, it’ll likely be their last time in Frogmore.
Harry and Meghan have only stayed at the cottage a few times since they stepped back from their official roles and left the UK in 2020. The last they were there was September 2022, for Queen Elizabeth’s funeral, and before that was June, to celebrate her Platinum Jubilee.
