Cardi B and Offset’s McDonald’s meal is the last straw for franchise ownerswho are concerned about the company’s values.
Cardi B & Offset Aren’t A Good Example
The rappers are being looked down upon for having a collaboration with McD’s when their music and public misstep do not represent what the fast food joint is all about. Franchisees see the problematic duo as not supporting the golden arches fundamentals and apparently, it is breaking a code!
Franchise owners are banding together to slam the brand and the recent decisions they are making in the name of branding. Some are removing the advertisements from their store windows.
They are also refusing to see merchandise that is a part of the promotion. They think that Cardi B and Offset are not pictures of family-friendly values.
Where Are The Complaints Coming From?
The majority of the complaints have come from franchise owners from the Southeastern and mid-Atlantic regions. They have been really kicking up a storm about the partnership. They cited the McDonald’s Golden Arches Code that reads, “musical partnerships associated with content that includes offensive language in the lyrics.”
Unfortunately for them, the higher-ups don’t to seem care. The music collaborations have become a backbone for McDonald’s to connect to their younger fanbase. The popular couple is not the only one who had the opportunity to partner with McDonald’s the likes of Travis Scott and Saweetie have had meals in the past.
McDonald’s At The Center Of Culture
The food giant's chief marketing executive in the U.S. Tariq Hassan reportedly told sources “Across our marketing, we’re focused on putting McDonald’s at the center of culture.” They have already put this into practice with those we mentioned above and more like the band BTS and J Balvin.
The franchise is committed to using celebs to make things happen for them financially. They reportedly spent $7 million on advertising during the Super Bowl to make sure the word about the couple’s meal reached all the right people.
Clearly, people at the forefront of the culture are the ones to use in their ads. It’s kind of shocking that they haven’t utilized influencers for their meal ideas or a Kardashian, Kim admittedly loves junk food.
Franchisees continue to use the code to call out McDonald’s for overlooking their own rules. "Partnerships with celebrities and influencers that have potential risk to damage our brand based on statements they have made or their positions on certain issues.”
Cardi B & Offset Are Good
The “Up” rapper and Offset haven’t commented publicly on the drama and chances are they won’t their business with the brand is done and as Cardi says in her songs unless they bring it to her doorstep, she is likely not bothered.
Offset usually follows his wife's lead so probably the same scenario there. The commercial for the couple’s meal is still being played on TV and allegedly fans are still running out to grab their meal and hoping to snag the bag for a souvenir.
