Evgeniya Chernyshova Is Jane Doe #1 In Harvey Weinstein Rape Trial, Put Exec Behind Bars In L.A.

Evgeniya Chernyshova was only known by her Jane Doe moniker during the trial of Harvey Weinstein, but now she wants to be open about the rape that “changed her life” and led to the disgraced producer getting 16  more years behind bars.

The producer somewhat lucked out in his Los Angeles trial this week when only one of the four victims who accused him of rape and assault actually had their charges stick. Up until now, she was going ad Jane Doe out of fear for her three children and the shame of being sexually assaulted.

In an effort to take her power back, she sat down with The Hollywood Reporter to speak about her experience with Weinstein. “I’m tired of hiding,” she admits to the publication. “I want my life back. I’m Evgeniya, I’ve been raped. This is my story,” she said almost crying.

The Hollywood Reporter later shared that she did eventually break down and continued bravely telling her story through tears. First, she addressed why she chose to remain a “Jane Doe” for so long as if she needed to explain that in any way (we get it, girl).

“I did it because I was ashamed and humiliated,” she admits. “I thought it was a good decision to protect my kids. But it was a horrible decision for myself because I’ve been cut off from everyone. It isn’t right to go through this hell alone.”

The former model wishes to this day that she never opened that hotel room door. She recalls seeing Weinstein at an event in 2013, it was only the second time she had met him, both very brief encounters.

Later on, back in her room at Mr. C Beverly Hills Hotel, Harvey came knocking on her door after having the front desk call her to see if she was in (Evgeniya told him they could speak tomorrow) she assumed he had left.

A short time later on the other side of her door, “He’s like, ‘Hey, it’s Harvey Weinstein. Open the door. We have to talk. I’m not going to fuck you, I just have to talk to you.'” She was married at the time and this was purely a business trip for her.

She opened the door because of how loud and “embarrassing” Weinstein was being in the hallway banging on her door. “And that is the thing I have regretted for the last 10 years — that I did open this door,” she says through tears.

Harvey appeared dominating to her, “he just walked through me and went directly to the chair. He was like, ‘We’re just talking. There’s nothing happening. Why are you so nervous?'” but Evgeniya had a bad feeling “I realized that something was wrong.”

She believed that initially, her broken English wasn’t getting the message across that she wasn’t interested and in fact, wanted him out of her room that he pushed his way into.

“He opened his pants, and I became hysterical,” she recalls. “I was continuing to show my kids’ pictures, to try to convince him that, ‘I have kids, please do not do that.’ But he did what he did. He assaulted me in the bedroom, and then he dragged me to the bathroom and he raped me there.”

Weinstein then said he would be sending her tickets to an event and left her room. the aftermath of the attack left the model with depression, she began drinking heavily, and she separated from her husband who has since passed away.

The moment has been rough, clearly. “I was hating myself,” Evgeniya says. She credits her daughter with pushing her to move forward and report the incident. Maria, 21 has also experienced sexual assault by a boy in her high school.

“I told her that there was only one condition that I was gonna be able to [report my case], and that’s if she also came forward with her case,” recalls Maria who went first and her mom followed.
