Another long-running popular sitcom is coming to an end. Per The Hollywood Reporter, the hit sitcom "The Goldbergs" is ending after its current tenth and final season.
ABC confirmed the news on the show's Twitter account, writing, "After 10 seasons of huggies and snuggies #TheGoldbergs is saying goodbye. It’s been an incredible journey, filled with laughter, tears, and some seriously epic ‘80s style. Join us in celebrating the final episodes."

This will mark the end of ABC's longest-running scripted sitcom in the network's history. According to THR, calls were made on Thursday (Feb. 23) to the cast and crew regarding the news. The series was created by Adam F. Goldberg and was a passion project for the writer. The partially autobiographical comedy follows a Jewish family in the 1980s.
THR notes that ABC having a lack of ownership over the sitcom, along with a decline in linear racing and licensing fees for the progressively aging series made the prospects of an 11th season less likely. The series is actually owned and produced by Sony Pictures Television.
The series has been through quite a lot throughout its run. As reported by The Blast, series star Jeff Garlin left the show in the midst of filming for Season 9 in December 2021 due to multiple HR complaints. Series co-star George Segal, who portrayed "Pops" Solomon on the show, passed away shortly before Season 8 wrapped production in March 2021. ABC bounced the show a lot around during its run and was once even used to launch a second night of comedy on the network.
Series creator Goldberg left the series several years ago after leaving his long-running overall deal at Sony Pictures TV for a new lucrative deal at The Walt Disney Company. He's currently developing a new take on "The Muppets" franchise. Since his exit, the show no longer used Goldberg's home videos within the show, and the series struggled to find stories that hit the same emotional notes as the ones from Goldberg's youth.
Besides Garlin as Goldberg family patriarch, Murray, the show also stars Wendi McLendon-Covey as mom Beverly Goldberg, Sean Giambrone as son Adam Goldberg, Troy Gentile as middle child Barry Goldberg, Hayley Orrantia as oldest child Erica Dorothy Goldberg, and Sam Lerner as Geoff Schwartz. Season 9 opened the show with a special sendoff to the late Segal. Comedian Patton Oswalt served as the ongoing narrator for the series as the present-day adult version of Adam.
Previously, ABC attempted to spin out "The Goldbergs" into a multi-show franchise with the spinoff, "Schooled," also created by Goldberg," which ran from 2019 to 2020. The show only lasted for two seasons and 24 episodes. The show starred AJ Michalka as Lainey Lewis, who returned to Jenkintown, Pennsylvania and becomes the new music teacher at her alma mater William Penn Academy.

Overall 10 seasons and 220+ episodes are nothing to be ashamed of. That is a good run for a television series, especially a sitcom. Not to mention, the show achieved the milestone of becoming ABC's longest-running scripted comedy series. Few shows ever reach this length.
Additionally, THR reports that with the success of "Abbott Elementary," ABC has less need for "The Goldbergs." The show debuted in 2013 and has hit over 220 episodes. "The Goldbergs" will likely conclude with its series finale airing on ABC later in 2024.
