Billie Eilish Opens Up About ‘Starving’ Herself, Using Diet Pills
Grammy-winning artist Billie Eilish has seen a lot of success for someone who is only 19 years old.
In 2015, she uploaded her song “Ocean Eyes” to the music streaming platform Soundcloud, which launched her music career and subsequent stardom.
Although the “lovely” singer has become a household name, she recently opened up about her struggles with her body image, particularly those she struggled with in her teenage years.
Baggy Clothes
The “Everything I Wanted” singer mentioned that her signature baggy clothes style was really a way to disguise her body insecurity issues.
“The reason I used to cut myself was because of my body,” Eilish shared. “To be quite honest with you, I only started wearing clothes because of my body.”
That being said, she feels as though the way she dresses is often misunderstood by fans.
“Sometimes I get this response from parents like, ‘Thank you for dressing the way you do so my daughter doesn’t dress like a slut,’ and I’m like, ‘Whoa, that is the opposite of what I’m trying to do.’” she revealed.
“If anything, I’m trying to make it easier for your daughter to wear what she wants.”
Body Insecurity
The “copycat” singer also went into detail about the extreme methods she would use in order to lose weight.
“I remember taking a pill that told me that it would make me lose weight and it only made me pee the bed—when I was 12. It’s just crazy. I can’t even believe, like I—wow. Yeah,” Eilish admitted.
“I was really, really glad though, mainly, that I’m in this place in my life, because if that had happened three years ago, when I was in the midst of my horrible body relationship—or dancing a ton, five years ago, I wasn’t really eating. I was, like, starving myself.”
Clapping Back at Trolls
In mid-October, Eilish shared a now-viral photo of herself wearing a tank top which clung tightly to her curves. Although some fans supported the singer, a tweet with a hateful message went viral.
“In 10 months Billie Eilish has developed a mid-30’s wine mom body,” they wrote, which kicked off a fierce debate about body positivity.
In response, the “Bad Guy” singer started her Where Do We Go? World Tour with a short film titled “NOT MY RESPONSIBILITY,” where she stripped down while speaking candidly to her haters:
“Do you know me? Do you really know me?” Eilish asked. “You have opinions about my opinions, about my music, about my clothes, about my body. Some people hate what I wear; some people praise it. Some people use it to shame others; some people use it to shame me.”
“So while I feel your stares, your disapproval or your sighs of relief, if I lived by them, I’d never be able to move. Would you like me to be smaller? Weaker? Softer? Taller? Would you like me to be quiet? Do my shoulders provoke you? Does my chest? Am I my stomach? My hips? The body I was born with, is it not what you wanted?”
New Documentary
Eilish has a new documentary in the works, titled, “Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry” where she invites fans into a closer glimpse of her coming-of-age-story, including a time when she was “most trapped in a relationship that was very emotionally abusive.”
“It’s really about my life, me, in such a way that I was not expecting, and was pretty brutal to relive,” she admitted. “I was going through hell in certain parts of my life, and I had no idea anyone was seeing it.”
“Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry” will be available for streaming exclusively on Apple TV+ starting February 26.
