Mary Cosby did not expect to see her "unconventional" marriage to husband Robert Cosby, Sr. become such a big deal on social media after the release of the trailer for "The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City" season one last year.
During an interview withUs Weeklymagazine on January 24, Mary admitted that when it came to her marriage to her step-grandfather, which had the blessing of her late grandmother, she never knew it would be used to create such fanfare online.
Mary Cosby Isn't A Social Media Fan
“I was not expecting it to be dropped on social media,” Mary shared. “That was more of a disappointment for me because I feel like social media is a place I don’t feel comfortable in.”
While Mary and Robert Sr. have been married for 20 years and share a son, Robert Jr., their "arranged" marriage has continued to grab headlines throughout the airing of the Bravo reality series' first season.
It's also led to backlash on social media by fans who simply don't understand why Mary agreed to marry her late grandmother's second husband.
Mary Cosby Doesn't Typically Engage In Online Criticism
“Sometimes I read it and sometimes I respond back to them and block them. Then sometimes I read it and [think], like, ‘OK, that’s your opinion,” she explained. “I try to separate it and I try not to put emotion into it. … In my mind, I’m not here to make sense. I’m here to tell you, ‘This is what Mary is and this is what I’m about.’ And this is my story and you don’t have to accept it again.”
Mary Cosby Was Ready For The 'RHOSLC' Premiere In November 2020
Looking back on her first season of reality television on "The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City," Mary said that when it came to the series' premiere last November, she was ready for the show to begin airing because she felt confident with the truth she shared.
“I just said my truth and I was ready to air it,” she stated. “I felt like it was time and I felt like it was the right thing to do. … I mean, it is unconventional, but it’s not unheard of, I guess, in other countries.”
Mary Cosby Doesn't Believe Her Marriage Was Seen In A 'Good Light'
Although she was ready to see the final product of what she had filmed ahead of the "Real Housewives of Salt Lake City" premiere, Mary said that she felt as if she didn't get to portray her story in the way she preferred. Instead, she explained, she felt like the narrative was chosen for her.
“They put that story right there with me,” she added. “It didn’t set it in a good light for me.”
