Almost a quarter-century ago, George Clooney and Michelle Pfeiffer delivered a romantic comedy for the ages with "One Fine Day," the story of two strangers and their children who somehow manage to cross paths in New York City and begin a romance there forth.

For however wholesome and now historic the project was, Clooney admitted during a recent chat as part of a Varietyactor on actor interview series that he did indeed show up to the set of "One Fine Day" drunk.

Clooney got very candid when he recalled the time he showed up to the set of "One Fine Day" fairly tipsy after drinking with close pal and eventual Casamigos tequila founder Rande Gerber.

"I came home at 1 in the morning, and I'm like, ‘Oh s***.' I was pretty hammered," the actor said to Pfeiffer, who was with him for the interview. "I woke up at 5 in the morning. I was like, ‘I feel OK.' Then I looked in the mirror, and I was like, 'Oh, I'm still drunk.' I got to the set, and we walked to the trailer and I sat down and you looked at me. You go, 'What?' And I was like, ‘I didn't know we were going to work today.' And you go, ‘You're still drunk.'"

Smelled 'Like A Distillery'

Clooney's recollection of the alcohol-fueled moment continued with, "It's a scene we did in a oner where you and I are talking back and forth to each other. I kept trying to spray whatever mouth spray I could because I smelled like a…like a distillery."

But that clearly wasn't Clooney's only folly while filming "One Fine Day," as Pfeiffer was quick to remind him that he came in one day to film with a busted-up face after engaging in an altercation.

Clooney Was Elbowed In The Face

"I took an elbow in the face from one of the crew members, and it broke my eye socket," he said, giving context to his former co-star's claim about the injury. "And I was like, ‘I can still shoot.' I remember we actually shot scenes where we blocked half of my face with a kid."

Despite the clear difficulties faced to bring the film to fruition, it went on to become a cult classic and secure multiple awards across a variety of categories.

On Each Other's Personalities

Pfeiffer said that her time with Clooney, albeit riddled with funny close calls, led her to learn how amazing of a person he truly is inside and how great of a father he would eventually become.

"Because you're a kid at heart," Pfeiffer said of Clooney and his relationship with children, "and you're like Peter Pan. It used to irritate me because you would get really upset when they wouldn't behave and do what they were supposed to do. We would spend 30 minutes getting them settled down, and then you would disrupt the whole thing and you would get them going. You'd do some practical joke and then undo the whole thing, and then you'd get upset they weren't behaving. Do you remember that?"
