Jillian Michaels is on a crusade to get people to PROPERLY use Ozempic after talking 8 friends out of using it.
Jillian Michaels Doesn’t Agree With Ozempic Use
The fitness guru has been speaking out about the drug meant to help people dealing with diabetes being abused as a weight loss drug. She revealed to PEOPLE exclusively that in her life she has had to personally get 8 people off of the FDA-approved prescription medication.
"I have taken at least eight family friends' parents off of this drug," the 48-year-old shared with the publication. She pointed to the side effects as the crucial reason why she needed to help her friends and family.
“They're getting heart palpitations, they're nauseous, they feel like s—. They feel so awful that it's motivated them to reverse their type 2 diabetes.” The medication has been trending like crazy for weeks with celebrity names attached to it, along with accusations of overuse and alleged abuse.
Jillian Michaels Says There’s ‘Rebound Weight’
The former The Biggest Loser coach shared that one of the biggest issues she takes away from the use of the drug, is the weight gained back. “Once they get off of the drug, it does the rebound effect.”
She elaborated, “So you're not gaining anything. You get off the drug in a year and go all the way back. You've not learned anything. You've not built any physical strength or endurance. You haven't learned how to eat healthy.”
An obesity doctor contacted by PEOPLE backed up Jillian’s claims. Dr. Ania Jastreboff, said that in order for the drug to continue to improve the lives of those who use it, they have to use it long term, or yes, they will gain the weight back.
Seeing as diabetes and obesity are “chronic issues” this would be the best way for the drug to be effective and keep those who use it at a healthy weight. But like Jillian mentioned the side effects could make them very sick.
Jillian Michaels Thinks Exercise Is The Best Option
Jillian loves working out so, naturally she believes, and science proves that this is the best way to get healthy and manage your weight., especially when it’s something like Type II Diabetes that usually pertains to lifestyle choices.
“The truth of the matter is, Ozempic has some pretty significant side effects. Do your homework on it. The results are not lasting, in very large part.” Jillian also spoke with TMZ on her thoughts about Ozempic and sang the same tune.
She says the companies lure desperate people in with the idea that “wow we can drop 15 percent of someone’s body weight, in 68 weeks.” She chalks that up to out 25 pounds in that timeframe but you can lose way more with diet and exercise, around 70 pounds allegedly.
Simple things like getting your 10,000 steps in and getting your heart rate up maybe twice a week would be more beneficial in the long run than taking Ozempic. She insists that if it was her body, she wouldn’t risk it. “It’s extremely dangerous and risky, and not worth it.”
