It looks like the panelists on “The View” might be in hot water with fans of Kim Kardashian!
After the recent death of pop culture icon Raquel Welch, the panelists on “The View” were trying to figure out who might be a modern-day sex symbol that could compare to Raquel’s legacy. However, the audience balked at the suggestion that the “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” reality star was a worthy equivalent.
‘The View’ Audience Boos Suggestion That Kim Kardashian Is A ‘Sex Symbol’
The View co-host Sunny Hostin had a rude awakening after she suggested that Kim Kardashian was a modern equivalent to the late Raquel Welch on Thursday’s show.

On Thursday’s episode of the ABC talk show, as per Entertainment Weekly, the panelists discussed the death of Raquel Welch. Panelist Joy Behar was one of the first to praise the impact that Raquel left on pop culture.
“You know, they don’t make any sex symbols like that,” Joy said, adding, “I don’t know any” present day sex symbols.
Panelist Sunny Hostin was the first to suggest the SKIMS founder, saying, “Well, Kim Kardashian is kind of a sex symbol.” This prompted the audience to boo loudly in response.
Whoopi Goldberg quickly added “No” while Sunny joked that the audience was “turning” on them. It seems that Whoopi might have agreed with the audience on this one, as “The Stand” actress responded, “That’s not even, you can’t even put them in the same… I’m moving on.”
Whoopi Said That Kim Kardashian ‘Can’t Get A Movie Greenlit’ Last December

Although Whoopi moved on to the next Hot Topic discussion, it isn’t the first time that Whoopi has downplayed the role that Kim has in the industry. Last December, actress Charlize Theron told The Hollywood Reporter that “the marketplace of what Kim Kardashian represents” holds “way more value than what Meryl Streep, one of the greatest actresses working, does.”
In an episode of “The View” shortly after the article was published, Whoopi said, “I don’t think that’s true. Kim Kardashian can’t get a movie greenlit, or it would’ve happened. She can’t do that. She can get television shows made, maybe, but that’s about it.”

“She can maybe be instrumental in helping things happen, but I’ll tell you, Charlize, you’ve got more pull in the industry than I’ve got in the industry,” she added. “You get stuff done faster than I can. Till took me 11 years,”
“So, there are things, there are people who can make things happen, but I don’t know all that many people other than a lot of men who can get stuff greenlit like that,” Whoopi added. She clarified that she would “never minimize” Kim as a person, but stressed that “Warner Bros. is not going to say yes to a movie because she wants to do it.”
Does Kim Kardashian Have Power Due To Her Millions Of Social Media Followers?

Although Joy reminded the panel that Kim has power due to her 335 million Instagram followers (that number is now up to 345 million), Sunny took aim at Kim’s acting ability.
“Have you seen the movies she’s been in?” Sunny asked. Although Whoopi told her that was a “different conversation” than the one she wanted to have, Sunny continued, “I’ve seen her act. I’ll leave it at that. You can’t compare them.”
Whoopi later revisited the topic and said that Kim’s popularity on social media won’t mean “a**es in seats” when it comes to movie ticket sales, but it could mean “a**es in seats on couches.”

“The bottom line is this. The idea that Kim Kardashian can get stuff done is real, and her talent, I’m going to tell you what it is. She took a cr*p situation and made it golden, not only golden, but she and her family said, ‘You will not speak about us that way.’ That’s not who we are,'” Whoopi said.
“What it says to mothers and daughters out there is, no matter how people come at you, there’s a better way we can move forward and up, not backward, and that’s her talent, that’s the magic of the Kardashians,” she added. “I tip my hat to them. I mean it.”
