Writer/Director M Night Shyamalan’s daughter Ishana Night Shyamalan is steady on those coattails and lands her first directorial debut.
Ishana Night Shyamalan To Direct ‘The Watcher’
The 22-year-old got the chance of a lifetime to make her feature film directorial debut with the gothic horror novel, “The Watcher”. She will also write the adaptation based on the A.M. Shine novel of the same name.
The news was shared by The Hollywood Reporter, also with a statement from Richard Brener, president and CCO of New Line Cinema.
“We couldn’t be more excited to make Ishana’s first film with The Watchers. Equal parts visual, immersive, and terrifying, the script grips you from the first page and never lets go.” The film is set to be released on June 7, 2024
M Night Shyamalan Gave Daughter A Leg Up
The novice director’s film is of course associated with her dad’s production company. Blinding Edge Pictures company owned by M. Night Shyamalan and Ashwin Raja will produce in collaboration with Nimitt Mankad of Inimitable Pictures with Jo Homewood set to executive produce.
The logline for the film says, “Mina, a 28-year old artist who gets stranded in an expansive, untouched forest in western Ireland. When Mina finds shelter, she unknowingly becomes trapped alongside three strangers that are watched and stalked by mysterious creatures each night.”
M Night and his wife Bhavna Vaswani have created kids who are absolute lovers of the arts.
M Night Shyamalan Has Three Daughters
The director and his wife share three girls. Saleka is 26 and an R&B singer. Ishana is the middle sister and they have a younger sister named Shivani. The girls are always supporting one another so it was only natural that Ishana helped her father direct Saleka’s 2020 music video for “Mr. Increible”
She shared with Just Jared at the time, how her sister and dad really showed up and helped her out. “My sister Ishana, my dad and I were drawn to the idea of a woman whose partner is always half present- almost ghost-like. I kept coming back to the image of this couple living in a house that is abandoned and falling apart around them.”
The video, much like her father’s films is haunting and deals with twists and turns that you don’t always get from a music video.
Ishana Night Shyamalan Worked On Her Dad’s Films
The director isn’t a stranger to being behind the camera, seeing as her dad is one of the biggest directors out there, she has had plenty of opportunities to get into writer’s rooms and on the set of films.
At 19 she decided to officially become a writer/director because that’s all it takes. She has written on Servant she was a second unit director on Old and Knock At The Cabin. She really put herself out there to get those jobs! Long talks with dad and all that stuff.
The director, his wife, and his three daughters have been promoting his latest thriller starring Dave Bautista and Rupert Grint.
