Rebel Wilson is finally calling out those who criticized her for partying after she welcomed her daughter, Royce Lillian.
Weeks after the “Pitch Perfect” alum welcomed her daughter, fans slammed her for having a fun time and leaving her newborn at home. In a recent update, the Australian actress addressed the parenting judgment she faced from fans.
Rebel Wilson Calls Out People Who Criticized Her For Partying After She Had A Baby
While on an episode of “Life Uncut” podcast, the Australian actress talked about her relationship with Agruma – including their lives as mothers.
The conversation began with the actress talking about how she had met her lover and how they began the relationship. The host asked Wilson if she had known that she was attracted to women at the time she met her lover.
Replying to this, Wilson said, “That’s a good question; like i knew I wasn’t a hundred percent straight, but I don’t know. I guess going to like... I went to a Christian all-girls high school, and I’m from quite a conservative family. So I think if I was twenty years younger, it wouldn’t have made any issue to like explore that part of my sexuality, but I just guess I never quite went there. ”
Further on, the conversation transitioned into the comedian’s daughter and what motherhood was like. The podcast host recalled the criticism Wilson received after she and her lover went out a week after their daughter’s birth.
She then asked Wilson how she processes other people’s judgment on parenting. Wilson responded, “Our baby was like one week old, and then the nanny says go, and then I’m like, ’no, no, no’ I don’t wanna, I don’t feel like going out. She’s like, ’the baby is asleep; you’re totally fine; just go out.’
The "Pitch Perfect" star continued, "But I was shocked at the criticism because Chris Hemsworth goes to the gym; well, people aren’t yelling, ‘where is your kids? What are you doing?’ But why do they do it to every woman?” The actress further talked about her growing up experience with her mother, highlighting that motherhood doesn’t equal giving up everything.
According to Wilson, “Just because you become a mother doesn’t mean that you lose your identity as a person, it doesn’t mean that you can’t go out with friends or you can’t go out on holiday, or that you can’t have a career. It’s hard, but it doesn’t mean you give up who you are as a person.”
Wilson Was Bashed By Fans As A Bad Mother
Fans would recall that weeks after the “Hustle” actress shared the news of welcoming her daughter via surrogacy, she was spotted at Leonardo DiCaprio and Paris Hilton's parties, having a swell time. Fans didn't seem happy for the Hollywood star as they flooded pictures of her from the events with negative remarks.
One fan wrote, "I sure as heck wouldn’t have left my newborn to go partying the week she was born! Whether I had birthed her myself or not is irrelevant!" Another added, "She can do whatever she wants, as can any mum, but it does seem a little odd that a week after a baby that she longed for [for] so long arrives and she’s out partying. Even if it was for an hour or so, it still seems a bit strange."
This commenter urged, "Ummm sorry?!? Didn’t you just get given a baby this week. So confused right now. This is the most important time to bond with your baby, not party," while another noted, "I think she may regret this post in a few weeks' [or] months' time."
However, it wasn't all negative comments, as some fans came to her defense. One positive fan wrote, "Are mothers not allowed to let their hair down? Are mothers not allowed to take a break for their own self, their own soul? None of us have any idea what is going on in Rebel's life so don't think for one second that you have any right to judge."
Another added, "Sure, not everyone can or even wants to, but there are many who do. Why do people have to make such a big deal about it? Life doesn't end when you have children!!"
The 42-year-old star broke the news of her daughter's arrival in November 2022 in a shocking post on social media. Alongside a sweet post of her newborn daughter, she wrote:
"Beyond proud to announce the birth of my first child, Royce Lillian, born this past week via surrogate 💗 I can’t even describe the love I have for her, she’s a beautiful miracle. I am forever grateful to everyone who has been involved, (you know who you are), this has been years in the making…but particularly wanted to thank my gorgeous surrogate who carried her and birthed her with such grace and care. Thank you for helping me start my own family, it’s an amazing gift. The BEST gift!!"
