Kenya Barris is highly sought-after in Hollywood by more than just fans. His sister, Collete Barris was looking for him as well via a service processor.
Kenya Barris Got Served
The writer was out at the premiere of his latest film, You People celebrating the Netflix comedy, it was after the event held at the Regency Village Theatre in Westwood, Calif that Kenya was posing for the photographers and chatting it up with the reporters, that he realized one photographer was getting uncomfortably close to him.
The pap finally approached the Black-ish creator, slapped him with a paper, and supposedly told him that he had just been served. Unfortunately, all the stars of the movie were on the red carpet as well.
It’s unclear if Nia Long, Lauren London, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and David Duchovny, and Eddie Murphy had seen all the drama go down, but really, it’s a red carpet, not many places to hide.
Kenya Barris Accused Of Breach
The sister of the famous director is suing her brother for an alleged breach of contract. The lawsuit was filed stemming from a February 2021 contract that the two went into together. “The parties in pertinent part agreed ‘not to communicate any disparaging remarks about each other or about any matters that led to this Agreement.'”
The doc goes on to detail that “In or around June 2022, [Kenya] stated to a third party that (1) Plaintiff was a ’70-year-old no talent hack’ and (2) Plaintiff had not earned the ‘right to be a show creator’ but instead ‘wanted to go to the front of the line.'”
Collete is adamant that her brother has been bad-mouthing her around town and while L.A. is a huge place, it's actually really small. Everybody knows everybody. The lawsuit also claims that he didn’t give her a fair shot.
“Kenya’s breach of contract denied Colette the benefit of their bargain and was a substantial factor and causing her harm.”
Kenya Barris Sibling Rivalry Is Ongoing
The brother and sister have had bad blood for some time now and the legal action is not the first time they have thrown digs at one another. In 2020, Kenya took a restraining order out on his big sister. He claimed he feared that she had plans to harm him and/or his kids.
In those legal docs, he claimed that his sister has spent years attempting to ride his coattails. He also accused her of demanding $4 million to help her get a film idea off the ground.
While the restraining order was dropped a few months later, it speaks volumes regarding the type of relationship these two have. Kenya has been having a rough few months with his family, he filed for divorce from his wife Rania Barris who he has been married to since 1999. They share four kids, Lola, 16, Beau, 14, Kass, 12, and Bronx, 6. Raina filed for divorce from Kenya first back in 2014 but the two decided to try and make it work.
They lasted longer than most couples who pull back on divorce. Hopefully, both these issues are resolved soon so Kenya can stop getting served at red carpet events.
