Fans are ecstatic after Nicki Minaj received the crown as the greatest female rapper of all time!
Although she had a rocky upbringing, Minaj joined the music industry as a backup singer for aspiring rap singers in New York. She eventually caught the attention of rapper Lil Wayne, who worked with her on some mixtape recordings, with the first one, "Playtime Is Over," appearing in 2007.
The rapper's fame and exposure continued growing until she was named Underground Music Awards' Female Artist of the Year in 2008. Now, Minaj is getting her flowers for her consistency and influence, bagging the highest honor due to an artist.
Fans Applaud Nicki Minaj For Being The Greatest Female Rapper Of All Time
Known for her provocative lyrics, quick-spoken rap style, and colorful wigs, Minaj — real name Onika Tanya Maraj — has earned a rep for herself in an industry dominated by men. The mother-of-one has continued improving herself, alternating between different rap personalities and being a doting mom to her baby boy.
Her hard work has paid off nearly two decades after her story began, earning the most significant female rapper of all time honor from Billboard. The publication released its "Top 50 Greatest Rappers of All Time" on Wednesday, celebrating five decades of hip hop.
Minaj landed the tenth spot, officially making her the only woman in the top ten list, which included Jay-Z, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Tupac, and The Notorious B.I.G. Once the news went viral, fans took to Twitter to share their joy at their fave finally receiving the well-deserved recognition.
"Legend icon queen of all queens," one person tweeted along with a picture of the rapper adorning the outlet's official flier for the countdown. A second fan posted a GIF of Minaj's eyes darting around as she held her phone, with "oh now they wanna give her flowers" written above.
A third fan declared that the "High School" hitmaker "should be the greatest male and female rapper of all time," and a fourth exclaimed, "FINALLY THE RECOGNITION SHE DESERVES."
A fifth fan tweeted, "now THIS is giving credit where credits is due," while a sixth claimed that Minaj has "impacted culture for decades; she will always be the greatest female rapper idk."
"I know that's right," a seventh person agreed, and an eighth clarified that the "Barbershop: The Next Cut" actress "is the only rapper to successfully and cohesively merge over to pop and still deliver great rap verses."
The Twitter user added that Minaj had shown her "different flows, cadences, and delivery" through the "personas" she has created over the years. With that dedication, the fan concluded that the recognition was "well deserved."
The BET Awards Winner Takes Social Media Breaks To Deal With Her Anxiety
The Blast reported that the "Do We Have A Problem?" rapper addressed her anxiety issues during a carpool karaoke appearance with James Corden last April. Speaking on the condition, Minaj admitted that some of her anxiety came from being a public figure because she was "more confident" as a younger woman just starting in the music industry. In the words of the 40-year-old:
"I think when you are a woman, and you're in the public eye all the time, if you're not careful, you can become less confident because you're being constantly scrutinized. I just don't think it's natural. It's not natural for a human being to just always feel like everyone's critiquing them."
Minaj added that she had "this amazing sense of freedom" when she first joined the industry "because nobody gave a s**t about what I was doing." However, since then, it had gone" from that to the complete, complete opposite," to the point that if she blinked wrong, there would be stories asking "why I blinked my eye that way."
The rapper has since employed the tactic of staying off social media whenever drama involving her happens. Despite the difficulty of doing that, Minaj explained that she feels peaceful about her time off.
"The Other Woman" star also has her son, whom she affectionately refers to as "Papa Bear" publicly and shares with her husband, Kenneth Petty, adding to her peace of mind. She told Corden that she bonds with the tot through her musical abilities, explaining:
"I rap and sing to him all the time. I just make up melodies all day."
Corden and Minaj had a field day rapping to some of her biggest singles, including "Anaconda," "Chun-Li," "Super Bass," and "Starships."
