Scroll for the photo, however if you are affected by eating disorders and do not wish to see an underweight and malnourished body, you may wish to look away. We'll warn you when the photo comes up.

Halsey's IG snap came as she hopped aboard the celebrity bandwagon of fans asking to "post a pic of," with a situation then shared and the celeb obliging with a pic. "You at your lowest point" was the prompt, with the "Without Me" singer then posting a selfie.

The image, showing Halsey topless and in white bikini bottoms, came with her modesty protected, but her ribcage stood out, as did an overall very slender frame. The indoor snap came with "TW: ED ask for help" added with a white heart as the tattooed singer displayed the reality of an eating disorder, also manifesting sticking-out hip bones.

Born Ashley Nicolette Frangipane, Halsey has since sparked anger on social media and taken to Twitter to apologize for offending anyone with her photo.

Halsey reached out, writing: "I am very sorry for posting a photo of myself depicting my struggle with ED without a sufficient trigger warning. I was very nervous to post it and didn’t think properly."

"I had positive intentions. I would never want to harm someone who shares my struggle...," the singer added, concluding: "With that being said im gonna log off now because this has turned into something I am not emotionally equipped to handle for the time being. I hope that’s okay."

The celebrity world is not short of females and males battling eating disorders. Most recent has been "Sorry Not Sorry" singer Demi Lovato bravely posting swimsuit shots highlighting her stretch marks as she celebrates her recovery from bulimia nervosa.

Also notable in having gone public with their battles have been 31-year-old singer Taylor Swift, songstress Fiona Apple, plus Ellen DeGeneres' wife Portia de Rossi. Halsey has spoken of her treatment, but she told Rollling Stone that "It’s still happening in my body. I just know when to get in front of it."
