Selena Gomez Leaves 'Hillsong Church' Following Pastor Carl Lentz Infidelity

Texan-born American singer Selena Gomez is severing her ties with Hillsong Church, according to reports from Daily Mail.

The shocking news was announced after the church laid off celebrity pastor Carl Lentz in November for dishonorable behavior and breach of trust. The famed pastor has since admitted to committing adultery during his time at the megachurch.

As a long-standing member of Hillsong church, Gomez attended the services with her ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber, in Los Angeles. Now, according to the “Daily Mail,” the singer is done with the church.

The publication referenced a source who told Australia’s Daily Telegraph that Gomez considered herself a Christian with a close relationship with God.

Also, the “Rare” singer is disillusioned as she does not believe that it was God’s will.

The source continued that Gomez had a close relationship with the church as she adored Lentz, who used to hang out with the church founder, Brian Houston, his daughter Laura, and Bieber. 

Sadly, the “13 Reasons Why” actress, now wants nothing to do with the church.

In 2018, when Gomez and Bieber were still a couple, the duo was frequently spotted attending church services together.

Their split speculations were first started after they were seen attending the same Hillsong service but sitting separately.

The famed pastor Lentz was fired from the church on November 4, 2020. In the released statement about the church’s decision to fire Lentz, the church founder announced that Hillsong Church East Coast had severed their partnership with Pastor Lentz. He added that the decision was reached after much deliberation in the best interest of everyone.

The statement concluded that the action was taken following discussions about the leadership issues and breaches of trust. 

In an Instagram post made on November 5, Lentz gave details and confirmed his moral failings. In the post, he admitted that he was unfaithful in his marriage and took full responsibility for his shortcomings.

Asides from Gomez, Bieber and his wife, Hailey, will also keep their once beloved church’s distance. The couple has since unfollowed Lentz and his wife on Instagram and the Lentzes returned the favor.

The news came as a shock as UK’s “The Sun,” reported that Bieber hosted Lentz in his New York apartment in the days following his departure from the church.

As the investigation into Lentz’s infidelity continues, Lee Martin, the Lentz family dog walker in New York, claimed he once walked into his client’s apartment and heard the disgraced pastor having sex with a much younger celebrity in one of the bedrooms.

He continued that he later saw the pair together in an elevator, looking flushed from their tryst.
