According to reports, Diddy's mother raised him as a single mother after his father was killed. He grew up in Harlem and Mt. Vernon, New York, and attended high school in the Bronx. At the time, she worked four jobs to support the family, the rapper revealed.

During his VH1 speech, Diddy said, "My mother to me was a superhero."

He continued, “She sacrificed everything to make sure that we were well taken care of and that we received the best possible education. And that we would always have the opportunity to go on and be great. She taught me to believe in myself and trust in my dreams. She instilled in me the importance of family and the power of love.”
