Butler appeared on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on Monday, January 30th. He opened up about his recent Globes win, Denzel Washington and his immediate bond with Lisa Marie.
The only daughter of Elvis Presley met Butler during a screening of Baz Luhrmann’s film, “Elvis,” at Graceland.
The fateful meeting would change the course of their friendship forever.
“I've never had an experience where I met somebody and felt an immediate depth of relationship to them,” the actor admitted. “She was a person who didn't really have anything to prove and wouldn't open up to everyone, and she just opened up to me.”
Two days before she suffered cardiac arrest, Lisa Marie along with her mother, Priscilla Presley, and Butler attended the 80th Golden Globe Awards.

Butler would go on to take home the Globe for “Best Actor in a Drama Motion Picture.”
“We got so close so fast, so yeah, it's just devastating. It's weird in moments like this because it's so bittersweet,' he added. “To get to be with her at the Golden Globes, I'll never forget that for the rest of my life.”
Butler is grateful for the time they got to spend together, but he wishes Lisa Marie was still alive to continue enjoying the “Elvis” movie ride.
“So much great stuff is happening but it’s really… I’m just devastated for her family and for her to not be here celebrating with us,” Butler divulged.
It was actually Lisa Marie who showed the actor her father’s slippers and his bedroom.

This is an area of the Graceland estate that is strictly OFF LIMITS to guests, and a place most people “never get to see.”
“I get goosebumps. That was after we screened the film and his bedroom is a place most people never get to see, and she said, ‘I wanna show you something,’” Butler recalled. “She took me up there and... moments like that, up there, he's not Elvis, he's just dad. Moments like that, truly I'll treasure that forever.”
Lisa Marie died on January 12th after suffering cardiac arrest in her Calabasas-area home.
Butler released a heartfelt message in honor.
“My heart is completely shattered for Riley, Finley, Harper and Priscilla at the tragic and unexpected loss of Lisa Marie,” Butler said. “I am eternally grateful for the time I was lucky enough to be near her bright light and will forever cherish the quiet moments we shared. Her warmth, her love and her authenticity will always be remembered.”
In the weeks following her death, grim details about Lisa Marie’s last days have come to light.
According to a TMZ report, LMP was taking opioids before her untimely passing and lost 50 pounds.
