Janet Jackson is something of a pop-legend today. As one of the only siblings to in the Jackson family to escape her brother Michael’s shadow in the 80s and 90s, her career as a music artist has gained her quite a bit of influence on social media today.

And before you assume her career ended with the start of a new century, it is safe to say that the now 54-year-old performer has yet to announce any plans to retire.

In fact, she was just inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2019!

Janet’s reputation as a timeless singer isn’t undeserved either. She ranks as one of three people in modern history to have a 1# album over the last 4 decades! Her last album titled ‘Unbreakable’ was not only a testament to her creativity, modernizing her sound for the decade, but was also a moment of triumph for her personally after it sold 253,000 copies. Shockingly, after postponing the tour that was meant to coincide with her album’s release, on account of her planning a family with her now ex-husband, Al Mana, she would later divorce him around a year later claiming she’d suffered verbal abuse from him.

Her resolute attitude towards her career and personal life have been massively positive aspects of her public image, actually propelling her sex-appeal to the masses somewhat unintentionally.

A perfect example of this is during an interview between Janet and her friend Tyra Banks (Famous model and TV personality) who helps her do a ‘model’s walk’ on live TV.

As mentioned before, Janet’s success and sex-appeal have been big factors in her popularity, but it turns out she doesn’t view her success the way others do. In fact, she believes that her success comes from God, and that the control she thought she had to have in life is more of an illusion.

“When I was younger, I thought you had to be in control of your own life,” she says. “That takes a lot of discipline, hard work and focus. You just can’t let it all fall by the wayside. Later on, I learned that God is really in control of everything. But you still have to put your best foot forward and be the best you can possibly be.”
