Gymnast Nastia Liukin is causing quite a stir on Instagram with her latest video.
The Russian-American former artistic gymnast took to social media to show off a video of her getting dressed, starting with a black bra. Seeing her shirtless prompted some fans to express concern about her weight.
Gymnast Nastia Liukin In Black Bra Has Fans Concerned About Her Weight!
In her latest Instagram video, set to the tune of Shuko, F. Of Audiotreats’ “One Two Three And,” the five-time Olympic gold medalist begins her video by standing in front of a white plush couch. She is wearing a strapless black bra and fastening the buttons on high-waisted black pants. Her long blonde hair is tied up into a slick bun on top of her head.
Nastia quickly pulls on a black strapless top that features images of pink flowers along the front and long sleeves. She adjusts the fabric around her shoulders and makes sure it’s adjusted well in the back before she sits down to put on pink stiletto heels and add a black clutch bag to her ensemble.
Although some fans loved her sense of style, other followers expressed concern that she was starting to get too skinny. “Not promoting a healthy body image for gymnasts or people in general. You're getting skinnier and skinnier,” one user commented. “I thought so too. Always been thin, her natural state. But getting skinnier is alarming,” another follower agreed.
“I agree. She’s too thin,” another user commented. “I was thinking the same thing,” another user shared. “I was thinking the same thing. I absolutely love her but every time she posts she looks thinner and thinner. It’s alarming. She’s always had a thin frame even as a gymnast but this is borderline sickly,” another user added.
Fans Assure Nastia ‘It’s Ok To Eat’ After Video Prompts Body Image Concerns
“Worried about your health. It’s ok to eat,” another follower commented. “You are a beautiful lady, that’s for sure, but I would say you need to put on 10 pounds. You’re getting so small,” another user wrote. “She doesn’t even look appealing! She is skin and bone,” another user shared. “Can I buy you a meal, please?” another follower asked.
“Somebody throw that girl a cheeseburger and fries with a milkshake please!” another user commented. “I hope little gymnasts looking up to her don’t go down this slippery slope. The body checking, ‘clean’ eating, and restrictive lifestyle she promotes in her content now is so sad and toxic to her young audience of athletes. It’s ok to struggle, but spread that message rather than spreading denial and promoting eating disorders,” another follower shared.
Other Users Tell Concerned Fans To ‘Mind Your Own Business’
Although there were some who were worried about the former gymnast’s shrinking size, there were plenty of people who called their comments “completely inappropriate.” One user remarked, “Unless you know full well what her health status is you are in no place to tell her what body image she’s ‘promoting’. People are in charge of their own health, she’s posting a video of her getting ready…not everything is a promotion.”
“These comments have me absolutely irate right now. 20lbs heavier and y’all are calling her fat… now she’s too thin. She can’t win, can she? How about you worry about your own bodies and stop criticizing hers, considering you haven’t lived a day in her shoes… or even know her personally, for that matter! Call it what it is. You’re not ‘expressing concerns…’ you’re passing judgments. Let her family and close friends express their concerns if they feel there is a reason to be concerned and keep your judgments to yourself,” another fan shared. “Nastia, I hope the good comments stand out more than these rude ones because you look fabulous in this outfit! Just like all the other looks you post! Love it!”
“Some of y’all are so rude. if someone has body image issues telling them to eat or that they look sick isn’t going to help. you don’t know anyone’s health background or what’s going on in their lives. some people can’t put on weight no matter how hard they try,” another user chimed in. “healthy is not a number on a scale. let this be between her and her health care professionals. sending love, good vibes, and a happy and healthy year.”
