The new spy drama television series, "The Recruit," managed to avoid Netflix's early one season and done curse. The streaming service announced this week that the show has been renewed for a second season.

The new show stars Noah Centineo, who recently starred opposite Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson in DC's "Black Adam."

Netflix Bringing Back 'The Recruit' For Season 2

The good news is that fans who were left wondering what happened with the Season 1 cliffhanger ending will receive some answers now that the show will continue for the time being. The show made its debut on Netflix a little over a month ago on December 16, 2022.

Other shows were not so lucky. Netflix canceled several first-season shows last month, including "Blockbuster," "The Bastard Son & the Devil Himself," and 'The Midnight Club." Netflix also canceled the buzzworthy show, "1899," after just one season. Other prominent 2022 series cancellations were "The Warrior Nun" and "Resident Evil."

In Season 1 of "The Recruit," Centineo portrays rookie CIA lawyer Owen. His first week on the job gets weird when he receives a threatening letter from Max (Laura Haddock), a former asset who wants to expose the agency's corruption and secrets unless they exonerate her for a severe crime. Owen soon becomes wrapped up in a dangerous web of power politics. He soon starts hopping the globe to complete a chaotic assignment.

The show is created and executive produced by Alexi Hawley ("The Rookie") and produced by Entertainment One (eOne). Hawley also serves as lead showrunner. Speaking on the Season 2 announcement, Centineo commented, "I know I speak for our entire cast and executive team at eOne and Netflix when I say that we’re thrilled to be returning to 'The Recruit' for a second season." He added, "I’m looking forward to seeing what [showrunner] Alexi Hawley has in store for us all."

With regards to Season 2, Hawley indicated things will be turning up some notches for the sophomore season. He revealed in a statement, "I’m thrilled to dive back into the fun, funny, action-packed world of 'The Recruit.'" Hawley continued, "Seeing how invested our audience became in the show’s adventurous take on the spy world has been incredibly rewarding, and I can’t wait to turn it all up to 11 in Season 2."

Centineo reprises his role as Owen for Season 2, also serving as executive producer along with Hawley. As noted by The Hollywood Reporter, the show preformed well following its debut on the streamer. The series charted on Netflix's global Top 10 list for five weeks, charting in 88 countries after its premiere on December 16.

The series marks another hit show on the air for Hawley. He also created ABC's hit show "The Rookie" and its spinoff, "The Rookie Feds." "The Rookie" is currently airing its fifth season on ABC. "The Rookie Feds" has not yet been renewed for a second season, but ABC gave the show a full-season pickup of 22 episodes last October, per Variety.

The first season of "The Recruit," starring Centineo, is streaming now exclusively on Netflix.
