Austin Butler is finally admitting that his “friend” who helped manifest his role in Elvis is his ex-girlfriend, Vanessa Hudgens.
Austin Butler Giving Credit
Where it’s due! The actor has been making the rounds collecting the awards for Elvis and the more questions he gets asked about the role, the more he pushes out the idea that Hudgens was there from the beginning literally using her love and light to manifest this role for him.
The actor has been telling a story about wishing for this role years before it happened and how his “friend” was just as enthusiastic about it. “There was an Elvis Christmas song on the radio, and I was singing along, and my friend looked over at me and goes, ‘You’ve gotta play Elvis!'”He recalled.
Later in the story, he went on to say, “That same friend was there, and I was playing the piano,” he went on. “She said, ‘I’m serious — you gotta figure out how you can get the rights to a script …'” Again, he calls her a “friend” and doesn’t even make it sound like it was a girl at all.
Austin Butler Fesses Up
Now Austin is eating his words while chatting with the Los Angeles Times. He admits, his “friend” is Hudgens his ex-girlfriend. “I was with my partner at the time,” he acknowledges “We’d been together for so long and she had this sort of clairvoyant moment and so I really, I owe her a lot for believing in me.” Ah, yeah, you do.
The actors dated for almost ten years and Hudgens was always the more successful one. The acknowledgment is kind of a big deal seeing as he seems to be trying to erase any trace of Hudgens from his life even if he has to remember stories in a convenient way for him.
Vanessa Hudgens Tells The Real Story
The High School Musical actress shared her version of the story back in 2019 while co-hosting Live with Kelly and Ryan. “Last December, we were driving along, and we were listening to Christmas music, and then an Elvis Presley Christmas song came on,” she gushed to Ryan.
“He had just dyed his hair dark. He’s a natural blond, and I was looking at him and he was singing along, and I was like, ‘Babe, you need to play Elvis.’”
The couple broke up a year later in 2020. When Hudgens got wind of Austin trying to cut her out of the origin story of him getting this role, she hopped on the bandwagon of the bevy of people making fun of him for still having the Elvis accent.
Vanessa Hudgens Had The Last Laugh
A fan commented on Austin’s accent while accepting his Golden Globe award he shared a meme of Lady Gaga in House of Gucci and her never-ending accent, the user captioned the video, “He went to the Lady Gaga school of Oscar campaign acting.”
Vanessa saw this, shared it, and added her own comment, “crying”. The one-word comment spoke volumes to her followers and anyone who had seen what Austin did to her.
Now that the actor is finally being honest about his “friend”, maybe people will get off his back!
