Floyd Mayweather is filing to officially be in charge of his late baby mama's estate, even though the ex-couple was involved in a multi-million dollar lawsuit in the months before her death.

According to legal documents, obtained by The Blast, the boxer filed to become the executor of Josie Harris' estate after the mother of three of his children died without a will. It's an interesting move, considering the issues that plagued the relationship while she was alive, but Mayweather claims the couple's adult children have 'failed' to act on behalf of their mother.

In the filing, Mayweather says he is "the father of (Josie's) children and he is a creditor. (Josie) has no spouse and her two adult children have declined to act." The boxer does not clarify why he would be a "creditor" of the estate.

According to the documents, Josie was only worth $22,000 at the time of her death -- and it doesn't account for any property or other assets.

Floyd is asking the court to appoint famous attorney Ron Rale, as a "special administrator" of the estate for the limited purpose "representing the Estate of Decedent Josie Lynn Harris in her child support case" against the boxer "including to settle or to dismiss the case."

Plus, Mayweather says the lawyer will "ascertain" whether the estate has an "interest in additional assets and to marshal any such assets. The documents say the lawyer is familiar with the couple's child support and custody case.

As we reported, at the time of her death Josie was headed to trial with Floyd in a $20 million lawsuit. Harris sued Mayweather accusing him of lying about her during an interview with Katie Couric. In the sit-down, Mayweather claimed she was high on drugs during a 2010 incident where he was arrested for domestic violence. The boxer spent two months behind bars after being sentenced in the case.

Harris claimed Mayweather was lying about the drug abuse and claimed he viciously abused her in their relationship.

We broke the story, the Los Angeles Corner's Office determined the 40-year-old died of "mixed drug toxicity" including Fentanyl and Xanax.

The official cause of death was listed as an "accidental overdose" of the two drugs. In March, Josie was found dead in her car which was parked in the driveway outside her home in Valencia, California.

At the time, one of the ex-couples children found her unresponsive in the car, and cops found no evidence of drugs or a suicide note. Interestingly, the death was first investigated as a homicide based on the bruising Harris had on her body after police arrived on the scene.

A judge will make the final decision of Floyd's request.
