Hollywood star Maya Rudolph is getting ready to represent M&Ms in the candy wars following the chocolate company's recent move. M&Ms announced on social media recently that they would be replacing their rainbow-colored "spokescandies" with Rudolph, effective immediately.

The comedian confirmed the news on her own page, as she called the collaboration a "fun pairing." Rudolph also noted how much she loved candy and how thrilled she was to work with the candy giant.

The revelation comes after Fox News' Tucker Carlson accused M&Ms of being too "woke" with their "plus-sized" and LGBTQ+ ideas for the spokescandies.

She said, "I am a lifelong lover of the candy and I feel like it's such an honor to be asked to be part of such a legendary brand's campaign." She also noted how proud "little Maya" would have been to get a chance to work with M&M's.

In a statement to Yahoo Entertainmenta rep for the company noted that the candies could "pursue other passions" as they would not be serving M&Ms anymore. The M&Ms Received Backlash

Last year, the chocolate company gave a fresh look to its spokescandies, and one of them especially seemed to have struck a nerve with many. The Green candy's go-go boots were swapped out for laid-back sneakers, leading to a series of memes and controversial takes from people who disliked the change.

The candy company also introduced its newest Purple spokescandy four months ago. While it was their first addition to the group of candies in over ten years, the move by the brand was called out by conservative outlets for being too "woke."

Earlier this month, Purple joined other candies, Green and Brown, to "celebrate women everywhere who are flipping the status quo." Although the move was empowering to many, these literal candies triggered and bothered Fox News' Tucker Carlson.

Tucker Carlson, who has hosted talk shows on Fox News since 2016, supported the standpoint of the network on the candy company's "Wokeness" with several wild conspiracy theories. The host claimed that the company went too far by making the Purple candy "plus-sized." He also stated that the Green candy was likely a closeted Lesbian.

While the spokescandies suspension and Rudolph's appointment come after the criticisms, some Twitter users believe that the company isn't giving in to Carlson's wild claims and is instead setting the stage for a big Super Bowl commercial.

A user wrote, "What an amazing and creative way to let us know Maya Rudolph is gonna be in an M&Ms Super Bowl commercial! I for one think M&M's made a brilliant decision."

Another commented, "Kinda shocked at a lot of people taking the M&M's announcement at face value. Like…this is clearly a set up for some Super Bowl commercial stunt."

According to Yahoo, a spokesperson for the company insisted that the Rudolph step wasn't a "reaction" to the backlash and that they'd already decided on the collab to promote the company a while back.

"It isn't a reaction to but rather is in support of our M&M's brand, which We will always continue to evolve to bring people together through the power of fun," they said.

As for their new journey with Rudolph, another rep for the candy giant shared with Yahoo that the public would see more of the comedian on their platforms. "Keep an eye on M&M's social media channels and MMS.com to see more of Maya's journey." They will also "share more" about the spokescandies "new pursuits" in the coming weeks.
