Why People Hate The Razzie Awards

While It could be a little bit funny in the past, the Razzies do not make anyone laugh anymore for a certain number of bad decisions that destroyed entire careers and lives. And they should have gotten the lesson because the last time they nominated a child to the Razzies, it didn't end well at all for him.

Do you remember Jake Lloyd? Of course, fans of the Star Wars franchise will say yes, but he was the one to play the role of the young Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars I: The Phantom Menace. He was nominated for worst actor and won it. People would after making fun of him and It stopped his career at a very young age when he could maybe have had a bright future.

But It didn't only end his career, it also affected a lot his life and that's why the Razzie Awards are now considered a problem. Jake Lloyd was bullied in school because of his role, and his life became hell very early after that. He was traumatized by cameras and couldn't play anymore in front of them. More recently, he has been diagnosed Schizophrenic and placed in a mental hospital. And most people think It is partly because of the Razzies. Maybe not, but there's one thing for sure, they participated in the bullying of the young actor.

Not Taken Seriously Since A While

The Razzie Awards are now hated, but way before that, it wasn't taken seriously at all already. Why? Because for their first ceremony back in 1981, they nominated Stanley Kubrick in the category 'Worst Director' for... Shining. Does it really need an explanation? Of course not. Anybody who has seen the movie, whether you like it or not, objectively knows that the film remains a masterpiece and an example for many cinematographers. Another example of the same category is Brain de Palma who was nominated by nonother than Scarface.

In 2015, in order to restore a little bit their reputation, they decided to nominate Ben Affleck in a category called 'Redemption' to apologize for their critics against him. He has been nominated in it for his great roles in 'Gone Girl' and 'Argo'. And people on the internet liked that initiative, particularly Ben Affleck who is a very appreciated actor.

But recently, the Razzie Awards fell back into controversy again by creating a category only for Bruce Willis to make fun of him. Very bad timing, because the actor's family announced a few days before that Bruce Willis decided to end his career because he has aphasia. And this year, nominating a 12-year-old child was, like many other times, one of the worst ideas the Razzies ever had. People still wonder today why it still exist. Well, everybody talks about it every year, even though they hate it. And that's maybe why the Razzie Awards ceremony still exists today. And it corresponds well with their satire.
