Drake Paused The Concert To Confirm The Fan's Condition
Drake's return to the Apollo Theater on Sunday was marred by a mishap involving a fan just as the rapper was about to thrill the audience alongside his collaborator 21 Savage, per Insider.
The "Jumbotron Shit Poppin" singer had already been on stage for about an hour and a half when a fan fell from the second floor into the orchestra pit.
It appears crew members were informed of the fan's fall, as one quickly rushed to the stage to speak with the rappers. Shortly after the conversation, Drake halted the concert and said to fans, "Just gotta make sure somebody's OK."
The arena's light was then switched on just as security officers moved quickly to locate the fallen person and provide medical attention. In the meantime, it is still unclear whether the fan was mistakenly pushed over or if foul play was involved in his fall.
'Everybody Is Absolutely OK'
Although it took almost a quarter of an hour, an update was given as to the condition of the individual.
"Everybody is absolutely OK," a voice said via the loudspeaker, per Insider. "They are being checked on. Nobody's hurt. But I got even better news for you: We're at the Apollo, so the show must go on."
Following the announcement, Drake and 21 Savage climbed the stage to fully kickstart their performance, singing several tracks from their 2022 joint music project, "Her Loss."
At some point in the concert, Drake expressed relief that the incident did not lead to the loss of lives. He said, "Let's just make some noise that everybody's OK, I feel like they had to wait like 10 minutes, we should go up a little more."
Drake Thanks Fans
Around the time the event drew to a close, the Canadian rapper thanked fans for their enthusiastic support. "This crowd is an absolute 10 out of 10. I'm so happy with tonight. We apologize for the delays and all that shit, but thank you," Drake said.
The singer reflected on how he has grown to embrace stage performances, all thanks to the high energy of fans whenever he performs.
He added, "But it's nights like these that let me know I have the greatest job in the world, and I feel like you, again, give me the confidence to know after all these years, after all the nos that we've heard, after all the doors that slammed in our face, it's this exact group right here that lets me know that I'm exactly where I need to f**king be."
Drake Hints At Releasing New Music
The Sunday performance marked the conclusion of his two-day run at the location, which was held after several postponements. Drake rescheduled the concert in November following the death of musician Takeoff. He then pushed back the show in December due to some logistic issues before it finally took place last weekend.
Some celebrities in attendance during the 2-day event include Odell Beckham Jr., Richie Akiva, Michael Rubin, Will Makris, Justin and Hailey Bieber, A$AP Ferg, Kevin Durant, and Ice Spice.
The rapper also teased that fans should expect new music during a short monologue as he thrilled fans on Saturday.
"I've thought about a bunch of things in life, but at this moment in time, none of those things are stopping making music for you, so I'll be here for you for a little bit at least," Drake said, per USA Today. "I hope I can strike up some more emotions for you – maybe this year, I might get bored and make another one, who knows?"
