Lisa Marie Presley Was Buried Next To Her Beloved Son
Lisa Marie was finally laid to rest beside her beloved son, Benjamin, who committed suicide in 2020 at the Graceland family graveyard. Sources confirmed to Page Six that the family had to adjust Ben's grave "slightly" to make room for Lisa Marie's body. Mother and son now rest beside each other at the Meditation Garden in Elvis' infamous estate.
Elvis is also buried in the same graveyard at the Memphis estate, along with his mother, Gladys, and father, Vernon. Photos of Lisa Marie's gravesite show her tombstone sitting beside her late son's and surrounded by several flower bouquets. According to Page Six, Oprah Winfrey sent a bouquet of white roses to be laid at Lisa Marie's grave.
Lisa Marie Presley Became A Grandmother Shortly Before Her Passing
During the memorial service, the late singer's first daughter, actress Riley, got so emotional that she couldn't deliver her eulogy and had to ask her husband to read it for her. Her husband, Australian stuntman Ben Smith-Peterson, obliged and, while reading, revealed that they'd made Lisa Marie a grandmother not long before her death.
According to Daily Mail, the day before the memorial, Riley had been photographed carrying a baby as she finally arrived at Graceland for the ceremony. The eulogy read, "Thank you for showing me love is the only thing that matters in this life. I hope I can love my daughter the way you loved me, the way you loved my brother and my sisters."
The actress further thanked her late mother for everything she'd done and how she'd raised her and all her siblings, late and alive. Shortly before Riley's speech, her grandmother, Priscilla Presley, read out a poem written by one of Lisa Marie's twin daughters.
Hundreds Showed Up For The Emotional Ceremony
Hundreds of fans and mourners showed up at Graceland to pay their respects to the late Lisa Marie, who died from a heart attack on January 12th. Celebrity guests included Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson and singers Alanis Morissette and Axl Rose.
During her tribute to Lisa Marie, Ferguson spoke about how she spent all her life with the late singer. She vowed to always be there for Lisa Marie's kids, saying, "We march forward in support of you."
"Elvis" actor Austin Butler was also in attendance with his girlfriend, Kaia Gerber. He recently won a Golden Globe Award for his portrayal of the late King of Rock' n' Roll.
Lisa Marie Presley's Headstone Is Now On View For Fans
Lisa Marie's coffin was previously on display to fans and mourners during her celebration of life ceremony at Graceland. After her burial, fans were allowed to visit the site and view her headstone, with many leaving flowers and other offerings.
The memorial and burial ceremony drew thousands of Lisa Marie's fans to the Graceland area. According to the New York Times, the estate hotel, which houses 450 people, was totally sold out from early on in the week until the weekend.
Hotels near the estate were also highly booked, especially from last-minute reservations. Instead of flowers for the gravesite, the Presley family has asked mourners and fans to donate what they can to the Elvis Presley Charitable Foundation. The foundation raises funds to help underprivileged children living in Memphis.
