'Game Of Thrones' Star Emilia Clarke Has No Intention Of Watching 'House Of The Dragon' For THIS Reason

While some are yet to start on the wildly popular "Games of Thrones" prequel, "House of the Dragon," Emilia Clarke, who played Daenerys Targaryen in the first series, is actively avoiding watching it. The actress starred as the dragon princess for all eight seasons of the HBO show until she was killed off in the final season.
"House of the Dragon" is set 172 years before "Game of Thrones" and stars Milly Alcock as the young Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen while Emma D'Arcy plays the character's adult version. Since its release last year, the prequel has seen considerable success and even won a Golden Globe award for best series.
Clarke, however, recently revealed that she has no intention of watching the new series. According to the actress, although she is really happy about the show, she feels like watching it would be "too weird" for her.

Emilia Clarke Says She Hasn't Watched 'House Of The Dragon'
In a recent interview with Variety at the Sundance Film Festival, Clarke revealed that she is yet to watch the prequel of her hit HBO series, "House of the Dragon."
When asked if she had seen the prequel series, Clarke said, "No! Can you [forgive me]? It's too weird. I'm so happy it's happening. I'm over the moon about all the awards… I just can't do it. It's so weird. It's so strange. It's kind of like someone saying, 'You want to go to this school reunion that's not your year? Want to go to that school reunion?' That's how it feels. I'm avoiding it."
Clarke rose to fame after starring as Daenerys Targaryen in the HBO series. It was first released in 2011, and the actress went on to star in all eight seasons. She received four Emmy award nominations for her portrayal of the character as well as three Critics' Choice Award nods.
Emilia Clarke's New Film 'The Pod Generation'
Clarke's appearance in the Variety interview was to promote her recent movie "The Pod Generation," which will feature her alongside Chiwetel Ejiofor. The film would see them act as a couple trying to have a child via a detachable artificial womb. "The Pod Generation" focus on topics like abortion, one of the things Clarke spoke about during the interview.
"There's so much politics around being a mother, having a child, not having a child… my God!" the actress said. "How dare people have the audacity to have that kind of an opinion on someone's life? No one has any access to how anyone feels… to try and put arguments on a person when you don't know them or their situations… there are bigger problems we should be dealing with."
Kit Harington Says Watching The Series Will Be Painful
Clarke is not the only "Game Of Thrones" star who is hesitant about watching "House of the Dragon." In 2021, her co-star, Kit Harington, spoke to the Associated Press, saying that watching the prequel could be painful. In a later interview with Insider, the actor elaborated on it further, revealing that there was a lot of emotion connected to it.
Harington said, "I think to see people get into outfits and costumes that resemble what we wore for all those years, and it [has] the same music and style and tone, but not be in it is always going to feel — There's going to be a rawness there."
"Of course, I'm going to watch it, and I'm going to support Miguel [Sapochnik], who's helming the show," the actor continued. "I wish them all the best, but it's so close to my heart, that story, that, of course, there might be a bit of pain there."
'House Of The Dragon' Won A Golden Globe
In the 2023 Golden Globes award show earlier this month, "House of the Dragon" took home the award for best drama series. It earned the win by beating out shows like "Ozark," "The Crown," "Better Call Saul," and "Severance." Sapochnik, who directed three episodes of the show, accepted the award.
While on stage, he brought D'Arcy and Alcock up and asked the crowd to give "a hand of applause for these amazing actors." The director went on to thank HBO for trusting them with their "golden goose."
"I noticed when we did the premiere in L.A., what everyone did was they had this thing of relief, rather than being excited, and then they got excited," Sapochnik continued per Variety. "And it was really heartwarming to know that we actually trimmed the foots of Game of Thrones because that was one really good show."
