Golden Globes showrunner Helen Hoehne did not enjoy Jerrod Carmichael's monologue at the award ceremony.
The comedian who was hired to host the event was unrelenting in his criticism of The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the organization in charge of planning the awards ceremony.
Carmichael named-dropped Hoehne in his monologue and said he had turned down three requests to meet with her.
Following the ceremony, several people called for the return of the former host Ricky Gervais while denouncing the event as "unwatchable" on Twitter. However, some expressed their support for the comedian and mentioned how much they liked his act.

'The Whole Thing Was So Awkward'
According to Huff Post, Carmichael's roasting of The Hollywood Foreign Press Association president, Hoehne, did not sit well with her.
The comedian who helmed the most recent edition of the Golden Globes did not mince his word as he handled the mic, taking some heavy shots at the showrunners. According to The Hollywood Reporter, this left the organizers "shocked" and "upset."
In a part of his monologue, Carmichael claimed that he had turned down three invitations to meet with the female showrunner, alluding that they were a "trap."
His statement appeared to imply that she had called him in to lay down the ground rules for how he would run the award ceremony, although neither the comedian nor Hoehne have confirmed the nature of the proposed meetings.
Sources close to Hoehne claimed that the show organizer reacted emotionally to the name drop privately. It is also alleged that friends "consoled" her as she worried that the mention placed her in a bad spotlight.
"The whole thing was so awkward and uncomfortable," a source informed the publication.
Jerrod Carmichael Said Being Black Landed Him The Hosting Job
On a larger scale, Carmichael tore the controversy-marred organization a new one in his monologue concerning earlier claims that the organization lacked diversity for years.
"I'll tell you why I'm here: I'm here 'cause I'm Black," Carmichael had joked during the show. He later dissed the organization for reportedly not having a single Black member until George Floyd died in 2020.
The comedian also pointed out a weird fact about the Golden Globes' host venue — the Beverly Hilton —being the same hotel where late veteran singer Whitney Houston was found dead in her room in 2012.
Following the show, Houston's estate shared a statement via TMZ that noted Carmichael's comments rubbed the family the wrong way.
"The Whitney Houston Estate is disappointed in the joke and felt it was in poor taste," a rep told the publication.
Mixed Reactions To Jerrod Carmichael's Hosting
While Carmichael might have had a fun time for himself, dolling it all out on the stage, some viewers were left not impressed with his performance.
Several took to Twitter to slam the show as "unwatchable" while calling for the return of the former host Ricky Gervais.
"Horrible. Hopefully, next year we can get a funny host," one Twitter user said.
"Who is this guy? He's awful! No command of the stage, and the Whitney Houston joke was in bad taste," another fan said.
On the other hand, some users enjoyed his monologue and took to the social media platform to sing his praise.
One fan said, "Jerrod Carmichael destroying the Hollywood Foreign Press while hosting their show gave me life."
Another penned, "The opening monologue was exactly what I would expect from Jerrod. It was supposed to make (many) people uncomfortable. That was the point. If they (#GoldenGlobes2023) didn't want that they shouldn't have hired him. Loved it."
Who Is Jerrod Carmichael?
Hate or love him, Carmichael has been a big deal among comedy fans, and his recent hosting of the Golden Globe is sure to have placed him further in the limelight.
He came into the spotlight through his eponymous show, "The Carmichael Show," which ran for three seasons. He has received a lot of praise for his stand-up comedy, most recently for his latest HBO special, "Rothaniel."
In that April-released special, Carmichael came out as gay. He subsequently had a falling out with his mother and other family members after coming out, which he has discussed at length in multiple interviews since that time.
