Since the release of Prince Harry’s new book “Spare“, the royal couple is at the center of attention. However, It seems like this attention isn’t positive at all, and Americans seem to dislike more and more how Prince Harry is complaining about his family situation.
According to Newsweek, Prince Harry has dropped 45 points in US public opinion and Meghan Markle has dropped 36 points, and all this, in just a month. Yes, the royal book became the fastest-selling non-fiction book ever on the day of its release, but is it good news? Not really, and we’re gonna see why these polls dropped so much.
How were these polls calculated?
To get these results, the polls asked the American people about precise events that happened in the book and after its release. For example, the fact that he included private family conversations in his book was disliked by half of Americans, 44 percent exactly, and only 26 percent said he was right to put these conversations in the book. Even though Americans love secrets and gossip, they have a lot of values regarding Family, and that may be the reason why this move was so disliked.
The polls also asked Americans whether their opinion of Prince Harry changed since the book or the Netflix documentary. 16 percent said that they had a more positive view after watching or reading them, 24 percent said they had a more negative view and finally 37 percent said both the book or the documentary didn’t change anything in their opinion. But what exactly is the reason for such low results, what really happened? Well, in reality, It’s an accumulation of events that people didn’t like.
The “private conversations” problem
In the United States and in the UK, people didn’t like what Prince Harry revealed publicly. But the content of it is not the only reason, It’s the fact that the couple asked for peace when they left the UK and that now, they’re doing this. They wanted the UK to stop talking about them in the press, they made it clear that they wanted to live far from the media.
As Newsweek recalls it, the couple was very popular in 2019 when they left for the US, even though many negative articles have been published about them. Because the Americans understood the freedom they wanted. But now, what’s shocking is that the couple is less popular in the US today than it was in the UK in 2019 when they left the UK. It means the American population might feel betrayed by these revelations and thus, Prince Harry’s behavior.
The colossal success of “Spare”
Everyone can agree on one thing, we did not expect so much success. More than 1.5 Million books have been sold in the English language, Amazon sold out in only 24 hours and libraries are already asking for new reprints even though some of them still have them in stock. Everybody heard about it and everybody wants to read it.
But why? Well, there are multiple reasons. The first reason is the success of the Netflix TV Series ‘The Crown’ which has been huge for many years. By reading this book, many people want to learn more about what’s happening inside the Royal Family and maybe have answers to some secrets that are in the show.
The second reason is that they just want to learn more about the family and him. People want to know what he has to say, to have all the pros and cons, and understand why he is on a perpetual “war” with his own family since 2019, and maybe, since way before 2019. But in the end, they learned even more than they were supposed to, because Prince Harry reveals secrets about the Royal Family but also private conversations that were never supposed to be heard by anyone on the planet. These conversations are so confidential that they made people angry but that’s also the main reason for their success.
Because yes, even though people think what Prince Harry has done is bad, they wanted to learn what happened exactly. People around us are talking about the book, so we want to know what is said in this book. Even though it is shocking and most people do not agree with the book’s content, they want to know, they want to gossip and be aware of what happened in the family and what the future holds for them.
