Tory Lanez made a big mistake during his trial, at least according to his current lawyer.
The rap star has teamed up with infamous lawyer Jose Baez.
Tory Lanez's New Lawyer Wishes He Hired Him Sooner
You may recognize the name from the Casey Anthony trial. He fought for Anthony during her 2011 murder trial.
Baez secured Anthony an acquittal for murdering her daughter, Caylee Anthony.
He recently appeared on “TMZ Live,” and explained that Lanez should’ve called him sooner.
As you may recall, Lanez is facing more than 22-years behind bars for the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion.
There have also been discussions that when his prison sentence is served he will be deported back to Canada; however, this has yet to be confirmed.
Tory Lanez Is Guilty Of Shooting Megan Thee Stallion In 2020
A jury found Lanez guilty on three charges after shooting Megan in the foot.
He was charged with felony negligent discharge of a firearm, assault with a semiautomatic firearm, and carrying a loaded and unregistered firearm.
He definitely wasn’t expecting a guilty verdict, and is doing the most to minimize his prison sentence.
Hence Lanez hiring Baez to represent him during his appeal.
“I can tell you looking at this case, I certainly wish I had come in sooner as opposed to later, and unfortunately, this is way it is, but he’s got me now,” Baez said. “I am willing to give him everything I have and hopefully we’ll get the best result possible for him.”
He explained that prior to this conviction, Lanez was never guilty of any crimes or legally recorded bad behavior.

“Tory has never been convicted of a crime and he has never had to deal with the circumstances that he’s dealing with. So, the adjustment that he’s going through is one of… it’s new to him,” he continued. “To his credit, he’s listening to his lawyers. He’s an incredibly articulate man and in all of that he is… there are things in the trial he had wished gone the other way.”
Baez went on to explain that mistakes are made in every trial, and he’s confident there were mistakes made in this specific trial.
“I would say there’s a significant chance that there are numerous errors that are in the system and within this case that should be explored,” Baez concluded.
Lanez Is Reportedly Paying $200k A Month For Baez
In addition to Baez, Lanez has hired David Kenner and Matthew Barhoma to represent him in his appeal.
According to Daily Loud, Lanez’s new legal team is allegedly costing him $200,000 a month.

As previously mentioned, Tory and his family were clearly not expecting the verdict to go that way.
After he was found guilty “several members of the rapper’s family shouted — calling the jurors evil,” per TMZ.
Hours before the jury’s verdict, Lanez headed into the courthouse holding his son telling cameras that he feels optimistic about the day.
Boy was he wrong!
