Meryl Streep Joins All-Star Cast Of 'Only Murders In The Building' Season 3

Oscar-winner Meryl Streep is the latest thespian to join an all-star cast of "Murders in the Building" Season 3. Series star Selena Gomez revealed the news with a post on her Instagram account on Tuesday (Jan. 17).

Streep will join an all-star cast in the third season of Hulu original series, including Steve Martin, Martin Short, Paul Rudd, Jesse Williams, and Tina Fey.

The Instagram clip featured Gomez sharing a behind-the-scenes video from the set of Season 3 with the various cast members, including the returning Martin and Short. The camera then pans over to Rudd, who joins the cast after making a cameo appearance in the second season finale. After Gomez asks, "Could this get any better," Rudd notes, "I do think it could get a little bit better."

Streep then pops up from behind the couch, giving Martin a fresh, new pillow and checking in with Short and Gomez. Martin also shared his own cast photo on his personal Instagram account, writing in the caption, "The filming of 'Only Murders in the Building' has begun!" The photo shows him sitting together with Streep, Short, Rudd, and Gomez. The message is clear, Streep is now part of the cast of Season 3.

"Only Murders in the Building" has become a major hit for Hulu, with the streamer announcing the show as its most popular original comedy series. The show ranked in the Top 10 of Nielsen's streaming series chart for nine weeks in 2022, per The Hollywood Reporter. The show drew 3.67 billion viewing minutes during that timespan.

The show also received 17 Primetime Emmy Award nominations for its first season, ultimately winning three, including Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for Nathan Lane.

There are no details yet on Streep's role in the mystery-comedy show. She returns to television for the first time since joining the cast of "Big Little Lies" in its second season. She was later nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in 2020 for her work on the show.

Streep has been nominated for 21 Academy Awards, winning three for Best Supporting Actress in "Kramer vs. Kramer," Best Actress in "Sophie's Choice," and Best Actress in "The Iron Lady," where she portrayed former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.

The show follows three neighbors Charles (Martin), Oliver (Short), and Mabel (Gomez) in the Upper West Side and have a shared love of true crime. After a neighbor dies in their building under suspicious circumstances, the group is determined to solve the mystery together.

"Only Murders in the Building" Season 3 will debut on Hulu later on. The third season does not yet have an official premiere date. The first two seasons are available to view now on the streaming service.
