Margot Robbie Was Nicknamed 'Maggot' By A Teacher
According to The Daily Mail, Robbie made an appearance at The Project, which was held on Tuesday night to promote her most recent film, "Babylon." During the event, she revealed the story behind her nickname "Maggot" and how long she has had it.
Robbie disclosed that she was dubbed the nickname aged six after a substitute teacher made a pronunciation mishap while calling out her name. She said, "I think a substitute teacher made a mistake on the roll call and said 'maggot,' and everyone love laughed."
Robbie continued, "You can't pick a nickname. You get given to it." The two-time Oscar award nominee revealed that after it happened, she hoped her friends would have forgotten about it by lunchtime, but that was obviously not the case.
Margot Robbie's Friend Called Her 'Maggot' At The Premiere Of 'Babylon'
The Monday night event saw not just Robbie but her entire family and some friends attend to support the actress at the Sydney premiere of "Babylon." During an interview with entertainment reporter Justin Hill, a close friend of Robbie's standing behind her referred to her as "Maggot."
The nickname was initially thought of as a dig at her first name or her love for the Slipknot band, whose fans are called "maggots," until the actress clarified its roots.
Robbie seemed to take the unusual nickname in stride and turned around to jump and wave at her friends enthusiastically. Turning back to the reporter, she revealed they were her childhood friends. "I saw my school friends. We have been friends since we were four years old," Robbie said.

Hill, who was interviewing Robbie at the time, posted the video on social media and several comments from fans of the actress poured in. Some called her down to earth, while others called her adorable and the entire moment "wholesome." A comment read, "She looks so comfortable and happy." Hill responded, "She was beaming the whole time, was lovely to see."
"Awe them yelling her childhood nickname too lmfao I love her," another TikTok comment read. "She doesn't care about [being] interviewed; let her go," a fan noted.
Some followers even criticized Hills for trying to continue the interview instead of letting Robbie go to her friends. They wrote, "Interviewer totally missed the chance to be part of something unique and special. Kept trying to get back to something already on record. Lame."
Margot Robbie In 'Babylon'
In an earlier interview on "The Graham Norton Show," Robbie talked about filming "Babylon" and how she was scared to ruin the opening party scene of the film. It reportedly took them two weeks to film. She recalled, "It was a wild ride. There were amazing set pieces, including a party scene that took two weeks to shoot."
"Every part of it was insane, and the stress levels were terrifying because there was so much going on, and I didn't want to be the one to mess it up," Robbie continued.
The movie is set in 1920s Hollywood and showcases the rise and fall of several ambitious personalities. Robbie plays Nellie LaRoy, a young starlet involved in parties, self-destructing drugs, and sexual encounters associated with the industry. A-list actors Brad Pitt, Tobey Maguire, Olivia Wilde, and Phoebe Tonkin are also a part of the film.
Robbie previously talked about how she had to go off script to snag a kiss from her co-star, Pitt, in an impromptu scene. "How else am I going to get the chance to kiss him?" the actress told E! News.
