A certain element of the "Anti-Hero" music video was believed to be "a monster on the hill" to some members of Swift's devoted fanbase.
The music video, which was released on October 21st as well, originally depicted a scene featuring Swift stepping on a scale, which clearly read "fat."
According to The Blast's report on the matter, some Swiftie Twitter users believed the scene was a depiction of fatphobia and called on the "All Too Well" singer to make changes to the video.
A concerned fan began a conversation about the video's content on Twitter and expressed their concern over how the reception of the video had been met.
"When @lizzo had a word considered ableist in one of her songs, she apologized and fixed it. Thousands of disabled folks spoke about it. Same with Beyonce. But Taylor has fatphobic imagery and it's 'you don't understand' directed at fat people?" their tweet read.
Another fan pointed out they were not surprised by the alleged depiction of fatphobia.
"I don't have the emotional or mental energy to comment on the scale part of 'anti-hero,' everyone is fatphobic until proven otherwise and as much as I love Blondie I'm not surprised," they tweeted.
The music video was later edited on Apple Music with the offensive scene taken out. Some fans weren't happy with the change; our report about the video's edit shares that one fan who had expressed their annoyance over the discourse on social media called for the scene to be restored.
There Was No Trace Of Discontent When Taylor Swift Reacted To 'Anti-Hero's Latest Milestone!
Eight weeks after "Midnights" and the "Anti-Hero" video were released, the infectious tune managed to surpass Swift's 2014 single from "1989"'s reign as her longest chart-topping single!
"Blank Space" previously held the position for a whopping seven-week run, according to Billboard. The lead single for "1989," "Shake It Off" currently holds third place for Swift's longest charting single on the chart, closing on a month at number one. Swift took to her Insta-story to celebrate her "Anti-Hero" reign. She shared a screenshot of Billboard's chart and exclaimed, "What On Earth? I love you guys!"
"Midnights" producer and Swift's longtime bestie and collaborator Jack Antonoff shared his excitement for the song's milestone as well! Antonoff also posted an Instagram story slide, writing, "remembering right before anti hero came out taylor saying it's her favorite song lyrically and that's why its first single but its a strange and personal one and we shouldn't expect it to ever go number one..... anti hero 8th week at 1.... insane" (via Twitter)
Swift also displayed some of her signature sweetness and support for her peers by giving Sza a shout-out. Sza's viral single "Kill Bill" is currently at number two on the Billboard charts.
"P.S. BEEN LISTENING TO @SZA'S ALBUM NONSTOP. ABSOLUTELY ADORE HER MUSIC. SO MUCH LOVE AND RESPECT FOR HER," Swift added at the end of her Instagram story post with a heart emoji.
Swifties were thrilled with "Anti-Hero"s success, and took to Twitter to tweet so!
"The fact that Taylor didn't think Anti-Hero would ever be successful.... she really underestimates herself," a Swiftie tweeted in The Swift's Society's thread about Antonoff's Instagram story.
"MOTHER AND UNCLE I'M SO PROUD OF YOU," another Swiftie tweeted in celebration.
"This made me emotional ngl," a Swiftie confessed.
"omg they're so humble," another fan tweeted, referring to Swift and Antonoff.
"she's the only artist i know who underestimates herself," another Swiftie wrote, "like who is going to tell her she is THE taylor swift," they concluded.
Swift and Antonoff have been working together in the studio since 2014's "1989." The Bleachers frontman was heavily featured in Swift's behind-the-scenes content for "Midnights." (per The Blast)
