Gwyneth Paltrow Thinks Having Young Kids 'Ruin' A Marriage
The "Spider-Man: Homecoming" actress and Katy Perry recently spoke on her "Goop" podcast about all things related to dating, relationships, and marriage.
Paltrow, 50, shared her opinion about young kids hurting relationships, saying, "It's hard on a relationship. Like I've looked back now on like the data set of parents with young kids and it just… ruins the relationship."
"It's really hard!" she added per Page Six.
Perry, for her part, agreed with the actress but offered her opinion on the way forward. She admitted that dynamics truly shift after having kids, but as long as couples are "willing to put in work, they can forge a way forward.
"I think if both people in the relationship are willing to do the work then it's going to be so much easier," the "Roar" singer said.
"But if one person thinks they don't have any work to do then it's going to be really challenging."
Gwyneth Paltrow Says Motherhood Is Rewarding
Although being a mother comes with its fair share of challenges and sacrifice, Paltrow and Perry agreed that it has been an incredibly rewarding part of their lives.
Paltrow shares two teenagers—daughter Apple, 18, and son Moses, 16—with her ex-husband, Chris Martin. She also co-parents two teenagers from her current husband, Brad Falchuk, former marriage: Isabella, 18, and Brody, 16.
"I never felt lonely again after I had her [Apple] … and I had felt profoundly lonely in my life," Paltrow narrated.
Perry, who has daughter Daisy, 2, with her actor partner, Orlando Bloom, shared the same feelings and pointed out that she felt "really lost" and that everything she did "wasn't enough" until a child came into the picture.
She Opened Up On Her Experience As A Stepmom
The actress took time to look back on her experience as a stepmom, admitting that she came into the role naive of its requirements.
She recounted her biggest regrets about being a stepmother to the two children from her husband's former marriage on a prior episode of the Goop podcast.
According to Page Six, the Emmy winner admitted that she had no "playbook" for the part other than the portrayal of the "archetypal evil stepmother" in media, saying that she had entered the situation "on tenterhooks."
As time passed, she eventually decided to lay all her anxieties aside and open her arms to them as her children. She was no longer scared to "love" or "discipline" Falchuk's children, as she earlier claimed she was.
"If someone asked me for advice on it, I would just say from day one, just really treat them as your kid," Paltrow said. "I just wish I had done that earlier."
Gwyneth Paltrow's Husband Heaped Praises On Her
The Golden Globe winner had her husband raving about her, calling her a "spectacular" stepmom and praising her for building a bond with his kids. "They talk to you all the time, they come to you for advice all the time, they rely on you," the "Glee" co-creator narrated.
Additionally, Falchuk referred to Chris Martin, Paltrow's ex-husband, as a "great dad" to Apple and Moses. The screen producer said of the 45-year-old Coldplay vocalist, "He loves them and spends time with them and all that stuff," adding that he "doesn't have to be their dad."
He clarified, "When I'm the dad in the house, all I have to do is simply be "dad." Paltrow and Falchuk got married in front of friends and family in September 2018.
