Chloe Flower the pianist who supposedly tried to play Michelle Yeoh off the stage at the Golden Globes promises that isn't what happened.
Chloe Flower Has Way Too Much Respect For Michelle Yeoh
The pianist went viral after the Golden Globes on Tuesday night after Michelle Yeoh heard music shuffling her off the stage during her first-ever win and she clapped back saying with a very stern face, "Shut up, please. I can beat you up and that's serious."
For some reason, one of the cameras panned to Flower and instantly people believed she was the one disrespecting Yeoh unfortunately, she received a lot of backlash from trolls online who played into the tricky hands of t producers.
Flower spoke with People magazine where she cleared the air around the awkward situation.
Chloe Flower Set The Record Straight
"I was hired to play piano when we come back from commercial break and reenter the program. It's called a rejoin,” she explained. “That was the only time I was ever supposed to play, and that's the only time I played."
Many of the celebrities accepting awards were being played off that night and Flower believes that productions choice to point the camera in her direction was a poor one. “All of a sudden, I became the face of the playoff music."
The moment kind of ruined this epic moment in Flower’s life. "I was kind of sad. I mean, you saw it. They cut to me. I'm not an actress," she pointed out to People. "I was sad that everyone thought that I would be that disrespectful. I would never do that as a live musician."
Chloe Flower Started Trending Immediately
The 37-year-old was surprised to find out that she was trending while the night was still taking place. "I found out that I was trending pretty early on in the show,” but the show must go on. Flower had to sit through the awkward trending moment while on live TV.
“I had two more outfit changes to go, so I was like, 'Oh, my God, how am I going to get through this?' But I'm a professional, so I had to just continue as if nothing was wrong." Thank god for professionalism, the musician kept it moving and she received some support from host Jerrod Carmichael.
Golden Globe Host Jerrod Carmichael Stood Up For Chloe
The comedian saw what was happening and refused to let it go down that way. He sought out Flower during a break. "He came backstage and told me he was going to take care of it. He's like, 'I'm going to say something. I'm going to set it straight because this isn't fair.' He's like, 'We're so lucky to have you, and thank you for being here.' "
The moment made Flower cry. “It wasn't what was coming at me on social media or whatever the actors felt or didn't feel. It was really the fact that everybody there had my back and they were there to protect me. I felt protected so I was able to complete the show."
Chloe Flower Had A Moment With Michelle Yeoh
Flower was able to clear the air with Yeoh almost immediately. "I wish the cameras were on when I saw her afterward. She walked past the piano, and I stopped her and I was like, 'I would never play during your speech. I respect you, and I am a huge fan,' and she held my hand. She was so lovely, and she was so nice."
She insists there is “no animosity” between the piano player and the actress, but of course, the Globes missed that touching moment. "Asians, we have to stick together. We have to empower each other. I don't think in any way that she meant or directed that statement at me. There was no animosity there at all."
Later that night, Chloe Tweeted about the moment. “Still a forever fan #MichelleYeoh !! (And she was much scarier in Crazy Rich Asians) #GoldenGlobes2023 #nevermeetyourheroes 😆” she made light of the situation.
All’s well between these two stars!
