The end is nearly here for the popular "Sons of Anarchy" spinoff, "Mayans M.C." FX Networks Chairman John Landgraf announced that the show will end its run following its upcoming fifth season, per The Hollywood Reporter. Landgraf made the announcement on Thursday (Jan. 12) during the Television Critics Association press tour.

'Mayans M.C.' Ends Following Fifth Season

Created by Kurt Sutter and Elgin James, the show follows the Mayans M.C. motorcycle gang in the fictional California-Mexico border town of Santo Padre. The show stars JD Pardo as Ezekiel "EZ" Reyes. James currently serves as the show's lead showrunner and executive producer.

In Season 5, EZ, his brother Angel (Clayton Cardenas), and the rest of the Santo Padre M.C. chapter face retaliation from outside chapters after failing to align under one leader. EZ and Angel have grown distant from their father, Felipe (Edward James Olmos), after a recent heart-wrenching betrayal.

The show also stars Danny Pino, Carla Baratta, Michael Irby, Raoul Max Trujillo, Emilio Rivera, Sarah Bolger, Frankie Loyal, Joseph Lucero, and Vincent Vargas. The Season 4 finale also saw the return of original "Sons of Anarchy" cast member Kim Coates as Tig, who met with Mayans member Marcus Alvarez (Rivera). It will be interesting to see if more characters and actors from "Sons of Anarchy" show up in the final season of "Mayans M.C."

"Mayans MC" made its debut on FX in January 2018 after "Sons of Anarchy" ended its run in December 2014. The Mayans Motorcycle Club was introduced as a rival gang to the Sons of Anarchy in the first season of the show. Over the course of both shows, it was depicted that the group had chapters across multiple states.

If the fifth season follows the previous seasons' episode pattern, it will be 10 episodes. This will bring the show's run to a total of 50 episodes. While it didn't last as long as "Sons of Anarchy," five seasons, with 50 episodes, is a good run for a cable television series.

Previously, co-creator Sutter spoke in an interview about envisioning the "Sons of Anarchy" saga as four chapters. "Sons of Anarchy" was the first chapter of that story, and "Mayans M.C." is the second part. This perhaps suggests that there are two more chapters or two more future spinoffs for the "Sons of Anarchy" saga.

Whether or not those chapters are ultimately told remains to be seen. "Mayans M.C." co-creator James signed a multiyear overall deal with 20th Television last July, so that potentially opens the door for him to work on future shows and projects for the studio and FX. Perhaps, another "Sons of Anarchy" spinoff or a follow-up to "Mayans M.C." might be figured into that equation.

The hit series is produced by 20th Television and FX Productions. Season 5 of "Mayans M.C." will debut later this year on FX. The debut date has not yet been officially announced. The first four seasons of the show are available to stream now on Hulu.
