Popular TikTok food reviewer Keith Lee worked his magic and helped a Las Vegas pizzeria go from no business to being sold out thanks to one viral video.
Lee, who's food critic videos typically go viral quickly because of his honest take of various food establishments, got an email from an employee of Frankensons Pizzeria in Las Vegas, where Lee resides, to hopefully help the failing business with a food review. "I got it, let's try it and rate it one to 10," he said in the viral video.
Keith Lee Gives Honest Food Reviews On TikTok
Lee spent $86.73 buying many different menu options at the pizzeria so he could give his honest thoughts in a TikTok video. He summarized the email he received about the business in the video saying, "The email read, I'm an employee at Frankensons Pizzeria. It's really slow. We really can't afford rent, and we would love for you to come and try the food." The email continued to explain that the owner doesn't know that he's coming and the issue is there's no marketing.
"The owner reached out to another food creator and they tried to charge us $2,600 to do a food review," the email continues, and also asked how much Lee charges for a food review video. "I didn't charge absolutely anything," he said. "And I bought my own food." Lee then explained that his taste test is to really see if business is slow due to marketing or if there's another reason.
"I can tell you right now, the service is not bad at all. And let me tell you why," he continued. "I called my order in and the person who took it was Frank, who happens to be the owner of the restaurant. Frank was so dope. He literally took his time, he was patient. I was really looking at the menu while ordering it, so I was like please be patient with me. He's like, bro, take your time."
He continued explaining the service aspect of the review. "I went in, I pay for my order with the cashier, he came from around the corner, he's like 6'3, real tall dude, came around the corner and was like grab you a pop out of there." Lee said he doesn't drink pop so Frank then offered a Gatorade. "He had no idea who I was," he said. "He walked up to me, he was staring directly in my eyes, and he was like, what do you do?"
Lee said that since he has social anxiety, he quickly fessed up to what he does. "I was like, I'm a food reviewer. I kind of whispered it," he continued. "He was like, oh we gotta talk. We had a 10-minute conversation, and I basically told him I'm gonna be completely honest. I'm gonna be 100 percent real. If I don't like the food, I gotta tell you."
Time To Try The Food And Give His Review!
After explaining how the review came to be and how the service in the pizzeria was, it was time to dive into his nearly $90 worth of food. He started with the garlic knots, which he said were a little spicy and delicious. He rated them a 9.2 out of 10.
He then tried the peach chutney wings. After a bite, he said, "That's a delicious wing. It's sweet, it's salty. That's a 9 out of 10." Then it was time for a classic Italian sub. This also got a happy, "this is delicious" after he took a bite. Lee also tried mild wings, lemon pepper sauce wings, all-American burger, fries, classic white pizza, and a small classic pepperoni pizza.
Lee gave some final thoughts after rating all the menu items he tried. "It's places like this don't nobody know of, this is a 9.8 out of 10," he said. "I wholeheartedly agree with the employee here. Frank, for me to you, this is my opinion, there is no way you should be behind on rent or struggling to pay rent. It is marketing. That's 100 percent what I feel like. That food is delicious. The service is amazing."
He concluded his video with, "Yeah, Frank. Yeah, Frank. I'm coming back and I'm shaking your hand. I don't even want nothing else. I just want a handshake."
Lee posted a follow-up video 24 hours later sharing how the pizzeria's TikTok followers jumped from 2,665 to more than 73K. He also shared a video he took of Frank and one employee sitting in the dining room area with no customers and then a look at the business just 24 hours later.
Keith Lee's Video Led To More Business And Spots In The Local News
Lee's video received 26.9 million views and captured the attention of some local Las Vegas news outlets. KTNV Las Vegas featured the pizzeria and Lee's review in a recent news segment. They reported that owner Frank Steele opened the pizzeria about four months ago and was struggling to get business. "It has been a struggle. I was lucky if I did $400 a day," he said.
He then explained how things turned around for the family-owned business. "I had this guy come in and didn't know who he was, and I started talking to him because I like talking to all my customers," he said. "I asked him where he was from and what he did for work and that's when he said he was a food critic."
Steele said he didn't think too much about it but just a few hours after Lee's visit, business was booming. "Our phone never stopped ringing. I've sold more lemon pepper wings in the last two days that I have in the past four months. I made more garlic knots yesterday and the day before than I've ever made," he said. "I have people coming in from Iowa, people from California, Lake Havasu. I had people come down from Utah, all because of this video."
