Shakira is starting 2023 with a fresh new perspective on life.

The singer had a pretty rough 2022. She and her partner of nearly 12 years, Gerard Piqué, split up after she caught him having an affair.

Shakira was also slapped with a massive lawsuit from the Spanish government. They claim she failed to pay millions in taxes and want her to potentially spend eight-years in prison.

Through all the trials and tribulations that 2022 presented to Shakira, the Colombian-native is picking her head up and continuing to go full steam ahead.

She shared the following message on her Instagram account: “Although our wounds continue to be open in this new year, time has surgeon's hands. Even if someone has betrayed us, we have to keep trusting. In the face of contempt, keep valuing yourself. Because there are more good people than bad people. More empathetic people than indolent people. There are fewer who leave and more who stay by our side. Since their breakup, Shakira has remained single while Piqué has struck up a relationship with a woman who works for his entertainment company Kosmos.  The former couple announced their separation in June, writing, "We regret to confirm that we are separating. We ask for privacy at this moment for the well-being of our children, who are our maximum priority. Thank you in advance for your understanding and respect.”  The couple share two children Sasha (7) and Milan (9). They settled their custody battle late last year.

According to Catalan Press, Shakira will be able to move her two boys from Barcelona, Spain to Miami, FL this year.

The Blast previously reported on the ex-couple’s bitter custody battle that began in June following their breakup.

Shakira wanted to move her and the kids to Miami for work reasons while Piqué was adamant about keeping their children in Barcelona.

However, the fútbol professional announced his retirement from the sport on Saturday, November 5th, during an emotional final appearance at Camp Nou stadium.

Per the Catalan report, Shakira and Piqué, along with their lawyers, spent 12-hours in a “marathon” meeting to hash out the final custody agreement.

The former FC Barcelona ceded to his ex-girlfriend’s wishes to avoid an ugly court battle. It must be noted the couple never legally married each other.

The “marathon” talks started Monday, November 7th, in the afternoon at Shakira and Piqué’s former Barcelona home in Esplugues de Llobregat.

Their “intense” custody meeting didn’t end until the early hours of the following morning, according to El Periodico.

“The children will spend Christmas in Barcelona but as soon as 2023 begins, the footballer will say goodbye and assume a painful sacrifice so that the youngsters don't experience an even more traumatic separation between their parents,” reports claim. “He [Piqué] will be able to cross the Atlantic Ocean to see them whenever he wants. The costs will be borne by both of them.”
