The new season of “Teen Mom 2” premiered on Tuesday, and one of the big storylines that fans already knew about from a preview of the season last month is Briana DeJesus revealing that she got an STD from her ex-boyfriend Luis Hernandez. Ahead of the premiere, she talked to PopCulture.com about how hard it was to share such personal news on a television show, but that she also hopes it helps ease some stigma around getting tested.
“I feel like I lived it, so it’s going to be difficult to watch back,” DeJesus told the outlet. “Obviously nobody wants to talk about getting any kind of STI or STD. People don’t even speak about it, but they should be able to.” The mother of two added that while there shouldn’t be any stigma around getting tested for STDs or discussing one’s sexual health, “It sucks that I’ll be known as the Teen Mom who got an STD … but that’s what I signed up for.”
She explained that she’s happy to have at least helped educate viewers on STDs and testing. “I’m OK educating the world that it’s OK to get tested,” DeJesus added. “It shouldn’t be anything like the elephant in the room, but it’s still hard for me.”
According to an insider who spoke to Ashley’s Reality Roundup, DeJesus and Hernandez had a one night stand last year while they were broken up.
“Back in October, MTV was with Briana when she and her friend went to the club one night. They went because Luis was DJing.” The source claimed. “The cameras were rolling when she and Luis went to talk outside, and then Bri left in an Uber with him, and they went home together.”
DeJesus told PopCulture.com that she and Hernandez are no longer in communication.
“I don’t speak to him,” she said. “I’m complacent. I’m OK where I am and where our relationship is. Things are for the better.”
On a more positive note for DeJesus this season, she gets to move into her dream home with her daughters Stella and Nova.
“We moved in pretty fast,” she said. “We got the keys to our house and the weekend after, we were all settled in. I’m happy I was able to buy [Stella and Nova] a house. It’s the best thing I ever did.”
DeJesus said that she has learned to stay away from Internet comments but hopes fans tune in and “gives me a chance.”
