Brandy & Monica finally appeared together to battle on Verzuz and things got a little feisty off the bat.
The two singers came together to play their hits on Timbaland and Swizz Beatz’s produced show. The event quickly garnered over 1.2 million viewers. At one point, Michelle Obama joined the group and cheered on the ladies.
Brandy and Monica have famously feuded for years but have never spoken in great detail about it publicly. Prior to Verzuz, Monica spoke to ET about the feud. She said they would reveal the backstory tonight. She said, “The fans have no idea what really took place, what really caused the initial friction. We worked to keep that between us. “It was not something that I would say was anyone’s fault. We all added to it and after a while it became real.”

Last year, music producer Dallas Austin recalled the time when Monica punched Brandy in the face before their first performance of “The Boy is Mine.”
The two started on good terms tonight but had a tense exchange at the start. Monica was telling a story about kicking in a door. Brandy tried to make a joke about her kicking in her door but Monica wasn’t impressed.
Monica said, “I didn’t say you.” Brandy replied, Well, no you didn’t kick in my door.” Monica said, “so why would you say you were one of the ones?”
Monica: There was a time that I was kicking in doors and smacking chicks…

Brandy apologized admitting she shouldn’t have said that. She said, “I was trying to make a joke. I was trying to work on my comedy.” Monica told Brandy, “I just said I was delivered.”
Brandy tried to defuse the situation by saying, “does this mean your not going to do the tour?” Monica said, “I only kick in doors when it involves the opposite sex.”
One fan wrote, “Brandy came to stunt. She’s throwing shade, playing HITS early, and droppin dead ni–a names. I hope she can fight cuz I can still see Monica catching her in the parking lot. #Verzuz.”
Another said, “Brandy might win the Verzuz but Monica gonna win the fight Face with tears of joy.”
During the intermission, the DJ played Crime Mob’s “Knuck If You Buck.” One person said, “Now if they don’t come back from intermission, blame the dj for inciting a fight between Monica and Brandy by playing “Knuck If You Buck.”
Brandy and Monica got over the moment and continued on with Verzuz
