Bella Thorne is falling on the sword after her highly-publicized OnlyFans debut caused an uproar from customers who felt they got a raw deal, and ended up screwing over legitimate sex workers, and now the actress say she’s trying to make things right. “The Babysitter” star took to social media on Saturday afternoon with a mea culpa about the intentions behind her foray into OnlyFans and now she never intended for her $2 million payday to hurt others who relied on the platform for income.
The 22-year-old star began her apology by trying to explain that her goal was to bring a mainstream face to the OnlyFans subscription-based platform, which allows people to charge viewers a fee to view explicit content. Thorne joined other celebs, like Cardi B, who recently joined up on OnlyFans, except Thorne implied that she would be going nude. Many of Thorne’s fans even paid hundreds of dollars more for content that was thought to be X-rated … but was apparently just a tease.
“Remove the stigma behind sex, sex work, and the negativity that surrounds the word SEX itself by bringing a mainstream face to it that’s what I was trying to do, to help bring more faces to the site to create more revenue for content creators on the site,” Thorne wrote on Twitter.
Thorne believed she was going to help the other content creators on OnlyFans, writing, “I wanted to bring attention to the site, the more people on the site the more likely of a chance to normalize the stigmas, And in trying to do this I hurt you. I have risked my career a few times to remove the stigma behind sex work, porn, and the natural hatred people spew.”
Thorne added, “I wrote and directed a porn against the high brows of my peers and managers because I WANTED to help with the stigma behind sex,” referring to the adult movie, “Her & Him,” that she directed last year.
After the snafu that Thorne caused on OnlyFans, restrictions were made for other content creators about how much they could charge and many felt the actress had ruined the system.
Others complained that checks from OnlyFans were also being delayed because of Thorne’s gigantic $2 million payout.
“I am a mainstream face and when you have a voice, a platform, you try to use you in helping others and advocate for something bigger than yourself. Again in this process I hurt you and for that I’m truly sorry,” Thorne wrote.
She added that she is not done trying to right the wrongs and plans on meeting with the OnlyFans brass:
“I’m meeting with only fans about the new restrictions to find out why!!! This is fucked up and I’m sorry comment any ideas or concerns you want brought up to OF!! and send me your links and a pic so I can promote you guys.”
