Bella Thorne 'Almost Got Fired'
During her appearance on Emily Ratajkowski's podcast, "High Low," Thorne revealed that the showrunners at Disney almost fired her for wearing a bikini to the beach while she was still a teenager.
At the time, the former child shared that she was starring in the channel's hit show "Shake It Up" and was much talked about by the then-younger generation. However, when she wore the skimpy attire to the beach, she received a barrage of criticism from the public.
"One time I almost got fired off the Disney Channel because I was 14, and I wore a two-piece on the beach," Thorne opened up during her discussion with her host, per Insider. "There was a fan, they got a photo of me on the beach."
She added, "I almost got fired. It was all over the media, it was literally viral in that time. It was, 'How dare this little girl do this? This is so disgusting.'"
Bella Thorne Was Shocked By The Bikini Backlash
Speaking further about the contentious episode, Thorne said that the criticism she got surprised her because, when she lived in Florida, she used to change topless on the beach "until we were of a certain age."
The "Midnight Sun" actress said, "[They were] blaming me and putting Disney under pressure to fire me. And obviously, Disney didn't fire me. And they were like 'Hey, we're getting a lot of heat for this .... so she needs to make sure that she goes out in boy's shorts and a loose T-shirt next time she's at the beach.'"
Elsewhere in the interview, Thorne recalled another controversial situation where she ended up losing a role because the then-director claimed she flirted with him and made him uncomfortable.
Referencing the incident that occurred when she was ten, Thorne said, "I don't give a fuck what the fuck I said. I don't care if I said, 'Eat my pussy right now' — she is 10 years old! Why ever would you think that? Why?"
She Is Scared About Having A Daughter
For Thorne, these incidents and being sexually abused at a young age make her "genuinely so scared" to bear a girl child in the near future.
"How do you tell your little girl that every day she steps out of the house that, one, she might be raped? Two, don't trust anybody," the "Dirty Sexy Money" star said, "And three, every time you get dressed in the morning, you're going to be thinking about how you aren't beautiful enough for this or sexy enough for this, or, 'Why are you so sexy? You're too young,' but also be sexy."
She added: "How do you have that conversation with your daughter? Because that's a really shitty one, and I really don't think I want to have that conversation."
Bella Thorne Opens Up About Being Sexually Abused
The actress has since chronicled her sexual abuse incident in a heartbreaking poem for her memoir, The Life of a Wannabe Mogul: Mental Disarray.
"He didn't have to deal with the countless times he molested me, / he didn't deal with the countless times I felt ashamed or disgusting," the 21-year-old penned emotionally about the molestation, which occurred until she was 14, per Insider.
She cited Stockholm syndrome, a phenomenon in which a victim develops an association with their oppressor, as the reason she had allowed the torture to continue for so long.
"Putting trust or love into your / captor because it's the only way you can deal with the situation in front / of you," she added. "The only way I could deal with it I guess, is by loving it / loving this cruel nature of his. Hating what he was doing to me / but trying to convince myself that I loved it."
