After losing 40 pounds, Shaquille O'Neal has his sights set on a new goal. The NBA legend wants to lose 20 more pounds, get "chiseled up" and check one more interesting thing off his bucket list - an underwear ad with his sons.
Shaquille O'Neal Isn't Done Losing Weight Just Yet!
O'Neal recently spoke to ET's Nischelle Turner and opened up about his plans to lose more weight in 2023 and then show off his weight loss in a unique way. "I lost 40 pounds. I need to lose about 20 more, but impressive," he said. "Imma get real chiseled up and do an underwear ad with my sons." O'Neal's goal has a tentative deadline - his 51st birthday on March 6. "Shirt off. Chiseled," he added.
The decision to lose weight happened after getting some blood work results back. That led him to go on a clean diet. Once the former NBA player made some necessary changes, the weight started to drop. "I got a couple people involved. It's all about eating right. I got some blood work done, a friend of mine called me and said, 'You're fat,' and she gave me this guy's name, and he did some blood work, and you know, cause I was the athlete - I wasn't a salad eater. I won't pay attention to any of that. I care about none of that," he explained. "I didn't know what the difference between a carb and a protein, at 50 years old I never knew. So, he was saying you can't do this, you can't do that, more vegetables, my iron's low. And once I just started changing those certain things, it dropped."
O'Neal also started taking supplements and drinking shakes and the weight started to fall off. "I'm not at 100 percent ninja mode yet," he said. "I'm still 75 percent."
Shaquille O'Neal Made Lifestyle Changes And The Weight Started To Fall Off
O'Neal has stuck to his new lifestyle changes and has snuck a few cheat days into the mix. He gives the advice to start walking to anyone who's looking to make health changes but doesn't have access to a chef and trainer like he does. "Start off, if you can, by walking 30 minutes a day. A lot of people can't do that cause I know, you got the kids, you gotta get to work. But if you can, start by walking 30 minutes a day," he said. "Put your headphones on, put on your favorite song, 30 minutes a day."
His next piece of advice: eliminate your vices. "Then you gotta eliminate something that you love. Eliminate it. I haven't had soda for a while," he said. "I gotta eliminate bread and soda, so, if I could eliminate bread or soda, I think I could get the Marky Walhlberg look. I want to be known as the Black Mark Wahlberg."
Shaquille O'Neal Is Father To Six Kids And Teaches "By Example"
O'Neal is dad to six kids - four with ex-wife Shaunie O'Neal, sons Shareef and Shaqir and daughters Amirah and Me'arah. He also has a stepson, Myles, from Shaunie's previous relationship, and a daughter, Taahirah, with former girlfriend, Arnetta Yardbourgh.
In November, the former NBA star spoke to PEOPLE about parenting six kids and said he hopes that when the day comes that he's "checking into the old folks home," his kids will continue "running what I started." "I'm caring, I'm funny. I'm honest - and I teach by example," he said. "I can tell my kids to get an education, but I'm the example."
