Tom Cruise is an actor that takes his craft very seriously. So serious in fact, that he doesn’t even want his co-stars running beside him. His “The Mummy” co-star Annabelle Wallis claims she has been the only actress who had the athleticism to keep up with the actor, but she definitely had to prove herself in an interesting way. Wallis told “The Hollywood Reporter” that she had to prove to Cruise that she was able to keep up with him on screen.
“I got to run on-screen with him, but he told me no at first,” said Wallis. “He said, ‘Nobody runs on-screen [with me],’ and I said, ‘But I’m a really good runner.'” Still, the actor was not convinced and would not allow her to run alongside him. Wallis shared that she had to come up with a plan to get noticed by Cruise and at the same time prove that she would be able to keep up while running on-screen with the “Minority Report” star.
I would time my treadmill so that he’d walk in and see me run,” said the star. Her plan apparently worked because Cruise was impressed with her stamina. So impressed that “he added all these running scenes.” Obviously, this was a huge deal to the British star because Cruise does not run alone because he is cocky. He allegedly does not like having a running partner because running is a protective instinct for him and he is extremely fast and essentially doesn’t want to hurt a co-star or worst off be slowed down and have to do take after take.
As for Wallis, she was absolutely thrilled that her plan worked. “It was, like, better than an Oscar,” she raved. “I was so happy! I was so happy that I got to run on-screen with Tom Cruise.” Let’s be real, who else can say they have run with Tom Cruise on screen? Cruise meticulous behavior when it comes to filming and his craft has been spoken about in the past by many actors. Rob Lowe worked with the actor back in the 80s when they were filming “The Outsiders” and shared that even back then he was so professional and always wanting to do his own stunts.
“He ended up being the only one who could do a backflip,” shared Lowe on the podcast “Armchair Expert.” “It is in the movie ‘The Outsiders’ for no reason. He runs out of the house and does a backflip for no reason. Just to do it.” he went on to praise Cruise for always being who he is and that being why he has the level of fame that he has today. Cruise’s next role is the sequel to “Top Gun” called “Maverick” there is no question that there will be a pump-y arm run and a lot of amazing stunts.
