Simon Cowell is recovering after a nasty fall on an e-bike that left him with a broken back, and the “America’s Got Talent” boss is sending love to his fans in his trademark Simon way. The 60-year-old music mogul was testing out a new electric bike in the courtyard of his Malibu home on Saturday afternoon when he took a nasty spill and ended up breaking his back. Cowell was transported to the hospital where his spokeswoman confirmed he underwent an operation.
On Sunday afternoon as he was recovering from the hours-long surgery, Cowell thanked his fans for sending love … and of course took a little shot at himself.
“Some good advice…
If you buy an electric trail bike, read the manual before you ride it for the first time.
I have broken part of my back.
Thank you to everyone for your kind messages.
And a massive thank you to all the nurses and doctors. Some of the nicest people I have ever met.
Stay safe everyone
Simon.”
Cowell didn’t get any more specific about the extent of his injuries, but according to PEOPLE, Cowell underwent a “five-hour surgery and he has had to have a number of fusions and metal rod put into his back.”
As news spread around about Cowell’s accident and hospitalization, his “AGT” co-hosts sent prayers and love while they were back on set taping a new episode. Sofia Vergara* posted a photo of herself, Howie Mandel* and Heidi Klum pointing to Cowell’s empty chair and wrote, “We miss our boss!! Come back fast @simoncowell!!? ?”
After Simon took to social media on Sunday, Heidi also dropped a comment in his feed: “We miss you Simon. Get well soon.”
It’s unclear how production will be impacted by Cowell’s absence
