Longtime lookalikes Taylor Swift and Karlie Kloss had a lot going on several years ago, all of which came to a head when they were caught kissing at a concert.
The Kissgate chaos resulted into romance rumors, and romance rumors into a dwindled-down public persona for the collective Kaylor entity.
Though the alt/pop star has a habit of never saying who she’s writing about, her latest drop “folklore” is littered with clues of Karlie-Kloss-past…or present; no one really knows.
Only adding to the confusion: Taylor and Karlie, who seem to be sending signals via a series of slightly-subliminal/sometimes-subtle social media messages.
Either this or they’re trolling the entire world.

Right at the 1-year mark of their relationship-defining road trip, Kloss and Swift shared Vogue magazine’s March 2015 cover. They conducted a joint interview in December 2014…right between Kissgate and Swiftmas.
Knowing the magazine was coming (and given the continued Kissgate clean-up): Kaylor kept a lower profile in early 2015. They were spotted together on a snowy day in Nashville that January, Taylor with her hand in Karlie’s pocket, and later that week alongside Lily Aldridge.
In mid-February, Taylor accompanied Karlie to the Oscar de la Renta show during NY Fashion Week – but “declined to comment on her presence” when a press outlet asked what brought her there.
“My publicist would get mad at me,” Swift said.

Since its release, many have felt that “folklore” is a(nother) canonically Kaylor album…and Kaylor can’t be separated from what got them started in the first place: their aforementioned/March 2014 road trip through coastal California.
It became so iconic that their March 2015 Vogue issue showed Swift and Kloss on an amped-up version of the adventure they “dreamily documented on Instagram.”
Taylor (and co.) left a lot of future lyrics behind in the multi-page spread…whether she knew it or not is another story.
Reflecting on her then-recent life change – moving from Nashville to New York and from country to pop – the singer said, “This last year has felt very different than any other year of my life.”
“I’ve felt more settled and unapologetic about who I am and what I stand for.”

Vogue continued: “Swift [was] describing her philosophy about making friends—basically, wear ’em down till they like you—when Kloss sweeps into the apartment, a six-foot-one beam of sunshine.”
Not-at-all ironically: Swift said the same word when a choosing Kloss-based emoji for their Vogue video featurette… see it below.
“Though Swift and Kloss have known each other for only a year,” the mag said, “their best-friendship, they tell me, was instantaneous.”
“A mutual friend, Kloss’s fellow VS model Lily Aldridge, introduced her to Swift, “and we were just like, ‘You. My friend. Now,’ ” says Swift. A few months later they saw each other again at an Oscars after-party, and Kloss suggested they do something spontaneous.”
Taylor recounted her response – “I’d been to Big Sur once before, and I was like, ‘We should just do it.'”
Bouncing back to business, Taylor talked about her upcoming 7-month trek on “The 1989 World Tour,” with Karlie too having what Vogue described as “the kind of schedule that would seem to require its own air-traffic controller.”
The model was “bursting to tell [them] some big news:
She’s been accepted to NYU’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study.”
“I’ll still be working full-time,” Karlie said. “I’m incredibly ambitious and have lots of goals within my career that I’m not slowing down on anytime soon.”

From “folklore,” Swift’s song “august” says, “will you call when you’re back at school?”
Kloss’ 2015 quote was quickly revisited after the album’s July 24th drop date…the song also makes a lot of road trip references and came just before Karlie’s 28th birthday – which was this Monday, August 3rd.
(Listen to “august” below and see what you think.)
As far as further “folklore”/Kaylor content goes: this is just one example from a landmark interview (which came after a firestorm/before a rollercoaster), so there’s plenty more where that came from.
Check back for part 6.
ALSO AHEAD: Squad for the summer, Taylor dates the DJ, Karlie came from Rome for this, Bleachella, absolute chaos, etc.
