Ellen DeGeneres has a lot of explaining to do and fans aren’t buying what she’s dishing out for an apology. The 62-year-old is under fire after several claims that her beloved “Ellen DeGeneres Show” was secretly filled with staffers experiencing sexual misconduct and harassment from the executive producers. The shocking accusations made headlines this week when BuzzFeed shared numerous first-hand accounts of explicit situations that lower staff members were put in, including one where an employee was reportedly asked by her head writer Kevin Leman for sex in a bathroom.
While Leman denies that “any kind of sexual impropriety” took place, many people are taking aim at Ellen DeGeneres including actor Brad Garrett who said, “it comes from the top @TheEllenShow.” While some staffers claim sexual misconduct, others accused Ellen DeGeneres herself of treating employees horribly.
The “Everybody Loves Raymond” star backed up those claims by tweeting, “Know more than one who were treated horribly by her. Common knowledge.” Lea Thompson backed up Garrett’s claims. Ellen DeGeneres announced that Warner Brothers has launched an internal investigation into the allegations when she issued an apology via email to her show employees. As rumors swirl that she’s anxious to pull the plug on production altogether, fans are already canceling her on Twitter.
Both #cancelellen and #ellendegeneresisoverparty began trending on the social media giant. “@TheEllenShow
Finding all this out & why isn’t here show CANCELED??? No one is to blame but Ellen!!!!! Shocked & heartbroken then it’s been fake & lies all this time!!!” one person wrote on Twitter.
“@TheEllenShow
i used to look up to you but i now see you are a MONSTER!!! Wow To treat people the way you do is disgusting… You’re show will be cancelled soon..KARMA!! WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE????? YOU NEED MENTAL HELP!!!!” fired off another. “Ellen…. CANCELED!” someone else wrote.
Fans aren’t buying Ellen DeGeneres’ apology either with some calling out the talk show host for coming off as “insensible” and “fake.”
“Ellen’s ‘apology and shock’ in her statement are so fake. You can feel her insincerity. Most likely her keepers wrote it. She’s so yesterday,” a Twitter user wrote. “I don’t know why I am enjoying this #EllenDeGeneresisoverparty so much but honestly I’m kind of living for it. If she really is as mean as half of Hollywood claims she is, isn’t it time to see her squirm a bit? I mean don’t promote being nice if you can’t manage it yourself,” added someone else.
