The corrupt and reportedly abusive Moab City, Utah cop involved in Gabby Petito and Brian Laundrie traffic stop days before her death, is still working.

Earlier this year, Gabby’s parents filed a 50-million-dollar wrongful death lawsuit against Moab City PD, Eric Pratt and Daniel Robbins.

You’ll recall that Gabby and Laundrie were stopped by Moab police officers in August 2021, the same month she is believed to have been murdered, after an anonymous caller tipped them off about a domestic violence situation.

The caller told dispatchers they saw a man [Laundrie] slapping a woman [Gabby].

Police body camera footage shows a very distressed Gabby recounting how her fiancé grabbed her face and scratched her and also pushed her.

A different body camera shows Laundrie smiling, laughing and accusing Gabby of being emotional and hysterical.

After Gabby’s murder, Pratt was promoted to detective AND he’s reportedly working as a security officer at Gunnison State Prison on the weekends.

Pratt reportedly threatened to kill a former mistress to silence her after their affair fizzled out in 2017.

In addition to his promotion and weekend job, Pratt is believed to be a school resource officer in all three of the district’s schools: Helen M. Knight Elementary School, Margaret L. Hopkin Middle School, and Grand County High School.

A source revealed to The U.S. Sun, "Pratt is still actively employed by Moab PD, he is currently working as a detective. He is also working a security job at Gunnison State Prison on the weekends."

Moab City PD has yet to respond to the wrongful death lawsuit filed by Joseph Petito and Nichole Schmidt.

Gabby’s parents are being represented by Brian Stewart of Salt Lake City law firm Parker & McConkie. They are reportedly “disappointed” by this troubling news.

He said in an exclusive statement, "As was described in the filed complaint, we believe that Moab City Police Department knew or should have known that Officer Pratt had a history of pervasive professional and sexual misconduct, including sexual harassment and intimate partner violence, is manifestly unfit and unsafe to be a police officer. The Petito family is disappointed that Moab City does not appear to take the allegations against Officer Pratt seriously. Gabby deserved better and the people of Moab deserve better now."

Stewart believed Officer Pratt was “fundamentally biased and likely ignored Gabby.”

Gabby Would Still Be Alive If The Moab City PD Did Their Job Correctly

Gabby’s family is asking for an investigation into the police department as to why the officer was allowed to still be on the force.

“We believe that Gabby would be alive today if he had done his job to enforce the law as is written and protected Gabby that day," he said.

McConkie explained the purpose of the lawsuit in a statement.

"The epidemic of domestic violence is a silent killer, the sign and symptoms of which often go unrecognized by those not familiar with interpersonal violence. ... To combat domestic violence, each of us has to do our part to call out abusers and know how to identify systemic problems that enable abuse, even when that is difficult to do," he said.
